The Day After

The party’s (almost) over. (I still have people coming for dinner tonight!) I’ll admit, despite Andy Rooney’s advice, I have cleaned up the wrapping paper, though the gifts are still scattered about. (Clearly he has never had to manage a house.)

To add glamour to the task, I have put on a new dress from Kim Lysette, one she is offering for a mere 49L right now if you get over and grab it. With a beautiful exotic texture down each side and a long straight mesh skirt, this dress is elegant and chic. Add Maxi Gossamer’s jewelry for Fameshed and the look is tall and thin and hides the Christmas cookie weight I gained.

My long wavy hair is one of Truth Hawk’s newer ‘dos, a side swept look with his characteristic beautiful textures. My skin is one of Shyla Diggs and Tricky Boucher’s newest with a pale lip and beautifully lined eyes. And Funeral Plutonian is offering these lovely eyes at the RMK Gothic Fair for a fresh alternative.

Winter Is Coming

How did this happen? It seems a week ago I was on my bike, pedaling to the store. And now there’s snow on the ground, frost in the air, and jingle bells on my mind. I have pulled out my boots, my wool coat, my 200 scarves and mittens and have stashed my bike in the back of the garage. Winter is coming!

In SL it’s not such a big deal. A woman can walk around in a short skirt and not feel the chill. I went to a redone sim from Jac Mornington, with a definite Japanese feel (think Hokusai without the wave). The air was brisk but not enough to keep me from shooting a few photos in a cute dress from Lilly Juno, which I warmed up with a scarf from Jammeh and Nena Janus’ cute platform boots that were her fund raiser for Shoes4Soles at Shoetopia.

Izzie Button’s pumpkiny pretty skin from TDR Fusion and gorgeous hazel eyes from Isabella Requiem still let me cling to the last bits  of autumn before the harsh winter winds blow. I love this hat and hair combo from Mina Nakamura. The hat has a color change option in the HUD where you set the hair color.

Postmodern Jukebox

“My goal with Postmodern Jukebox is to get my audience to think of songs not as rigid, ephemeral objects, but like malleable globs of silly putty. Songs can be twisted, shaped, and altered without losing their identities….” ~ Scott Bradlee from the Postmodern Jukebox website

One of my favorite discoveries on YouTube recently has been Postmodern Jukebox. A gentleman named Scott Bradlee rearranges popular pop tunes in different genres. For example, a doo wop version of Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop” or a vintage 1940s version of Selena Gomez’ “Come and Get It.” He has some brilliant fellow musicians perform with him—his lead singer is great. Hearing the raunchy lyrics sung in these forms is hilarious as well.

This outfit has a tinge of the postmodern to it. Start with this sheer top from Julliette Westerburg, which she is offering at Collabor88. The brilliance of the top is that it ends just right so you can wear it with other mesh pieces. It fits wonderfully with Paul Lapointe’s new mesh skirt with color change HUD designed by his amazing wife, Bastchild Lotus. The skirt comes with a HUD for 20 different colors and then you can add on this hud for 8 more styles:

I love the thin belt, the high waist, the leather-textured panels. Paul and Bast are all about the details, which is what makes this a great piece and an excellent deal (all those colors in one skirt).

Babychampagne Sass is contributing a pair of high fashion, sexy shoes for the SL Fashion Week, which make this look complete. The fashionable red sole (evocative of a Laboutin shoe), the buckles and straps, and of course the stiletto heel give this look an edgy quality, especially when I pair it with Maxi Gossamer’s skull ring for Collabor88.

Finally I wear Aida Ewing’s new skin for Collabor88, part of a set that includes wild makeups and then a plainer look—a two-fer bargain for an already low price! Mr. Truth Hawks gives us his new hair with a HUD. A menu of color choices allows the user to choose the shade she wants while keeping her inventory clear of a bazillion prims. Thank you, Truth!

Ivy Burner has made this gorgeous dress with an Indian gold motif on the collar for the Black Fair (which will be closing soon, so get over there NOW). With a great halter neckline and a short-up-to-there skirt, it’s sexy and sensual and perfect for a girl with bright eyes. (I thought the turquoise would pop against the black and I’m right.)

I am showing Gospel Voom’s newest shoes, the Paris Peeptoe, which comes in satin or patent in several bold colorways. Yes, she can do more than just whip together mesh extremities—she does the hair too!

Did they know when they wrote these lyrics that they were prescient—”mesh and lace”? Voshie Paine has combined them to make this lovely dress for the Black Fair. With a gorgeous system top in black lace over a beautiful flowing mesh skirt, this dress is extremely elegant, especially in black. (I took it dancing and the mesh skirt performed well. I would not do the tango but other moves worked.) I accessorized with pearl s from Barf Delicioso (yep, folks, examining the creator yielded that), which are being sold at Collabor88.

My mesh hair with color change bow is one of Truth Hawk’s newest. Pearl earrings are from Maxi Gossamer’s set at the Black Fair and my eyes are from Maddox DuPont’s group gift for his seventh rez day (old man!). My luminous skin is Hlin Blackbird’s lovely offering for the Black Fair.
