Some of my friends in SL travel a lot in RL, for work or pleasure, and they have told me that the stability a home base in SL provides for them means more than they expected. Sitting in a hotel room, using the crappy wifi, sometimes it’s a balm to log in and see your comfy sofa and favorite art on the wall, right where you left it. I arranged a comfortable room with furnishings from Shiny Shabby. Some are gacha, like the great pieces from Kunst Himmel and the sofas and pieces from Marinestella and Serab, and some are just pieces you can purchase without chancing it, like Colleen Desmoulin’s sofa and mirror. Amazingly, they all fit together.

I wore a boho elegant outfit, pairing a translucent top from Poulet Koenkamp that includes a lovely set of textures and a great sheerness, with jeans from Paul Lapointe and Bastchild Lotus. These flares have been out a while but Paul has reconfigured the mesh to fit the Maitreya Lara body, and they fit like a glove, especially with the perfect L&B ass. I wore Aikea Reiko’s lovely jewelry for Shiny Shabby and new shoes from Senzati0n Domenitzo that she is, omg no, featuring in her own store and not at an event!

I have put Aleida Rhode’s Omega applier for the Devine II skin on the Logo head here and damn if it doesn’t look just spectacular. I think some skins with Omega appliers are not meant for the Logo head—the brows don’t extend far enough, the lips look overblown. With this skin, it’s perfect. Brown eyes from Ikon Innovia from Shiny Shabby and VivienMarli’s sleek long hair finish a beautiful look at home with this beautiful furniture.

When I was looking up songs for this blog, I found photos of Lita Ford today and man, she looks darn good! I hope I can be a cherry bomb at her age! That being said, I tried to make a bomb of a girl today with this dress from Tatyana Ultsch that includes a texture-change HUD for all sorts of choices. Matched with these spicy chic shoes from Senzati0n Domenitzo for Shiny Shabby and the simple and sexy infinity choker from Sora Tatham, this look is the bomb.

MissAllSunday Lemon released this sexy hairdo with bangs at her store, and I would say the bangs make the look, especially over this LeLutka mesh head with its sexy eyes. Even sexier is the applier from Sachi Vixen with separate makeup elements that I played with until I got this hot look. Because of the great HUD for the head itself, I was able to adjust the intensity of the eyeshadow and give it a lighter touch, which was my preference, but I left the lips intense and sexy. Sachi has also made appliers for the Maitreya body

Amacci for Hair Fair 2015

Yet more hair!

One of the reasons I look forward to Hair Fair every year is because I get to see work by creators I don’t always encounter in my regular SL. Some are doing other things like clothing or jewelry or skins normally and make hair mostly for Hair Fair because hair is not their primary creation.

Carina Larsen is one of those. While she does hair, she also does a bunch of other great content, so hair is simply not her main line, but gosh, when she does hair, she does it beautifully. She is donating a portion of sales from FIVE hairs at Hair Fair this year and each one of them is gorgeous. With two updos, two ponytails (one that is an add on for a hairbase) and one sexy long hair, you are bound to find something (or some things) that will make you happy. She includes a great texture change HUD with some fabulous textures. And her styles are classics—wearable, usable and lovely.

Carina’s lovely styles combine perfectly with Nena Janus’ sublime applier for the LeLutka heads. It’s not a shape Nena has employed before (wider set eyes, poutier lips) but she was up to the task of making them look fabulous with her great skins.

My lingerie, which you can see very little of, is a new little set from Mariska Simons, which includes appliers for every meh body you can think of and variations of the bra/panties/garters/stockings combo.

It’s time for a little springtime fantasy, and Kiddo Oh’s sexy wrapped dress starts it off with beautiful side cut-outs for a bit of peekaboo. Joined with AvaGardner Kungler’s necklace for the Cosmopolitan Room and a crown from YukaChoco Magic from the Fantasy Collective (which closes soon!) and here we have a gorgeous otherworldly princess, one who still flies, especially with her darling pet by Sh0rtie, also from the Fantasy Collective. (The wings flap most delightfully as it sits on your shoulder!)

M4ri1yn Magic made this very photogenic mesh hair for the Shiny Shabby event. It comes in the many colors and textures he offers with his hair on a handy HUD. However, I show it here in an ethereal white.

And the genesis of the look was, of course, Monicuzza Babenco’s fantasy skin for the LeLutka mesh heads. With 10 brow choices in black and white (which includes fantasy designs like the dots on my head and chin), 10 eye makeups and 10 lipsticks, it’s a beautiful fantasy applier for the mesh heads. Three tones are available: drow, vamp and then this grayish fantasy tone, which she calls “Zafiro.” She also includes eyes and body appliers, so I was able to put together this whole gorgeous look, and I had a great time testing out the many looks available. What a beautiful way to make a fantasy fly!

Shiny Shabby opened yesterday with a Russian theme. There are matryoshka dolls, Soviet propaganda posters, folk art designs and costumes, and a lot of vodka (thanks, Kunst). I made me think about what Russia means to me, and all I could think of were the White Nights and the persistence of the KGB that my grad school friend Alexei told me about when we would stay up eating potato pancakes he made and talking about his life in St. Petersburg. And then I thought about Oleg, the very loud Russian Jew who worked a few cubicles down from me, talking in Hebrew and Russian with the elderly people we were interviewing at our job, nearly yelling as they nearly yelled in return. Or I might think of Loreen Aldrin’s (RL Olga Zee—you must click it!) absolutely gorgeous voice and her songs when she performs in SL (join her group here where she gives away a free song every month).

The creators have outdone themselves with the Shiny and the Shabby. Pieces from Monlmanl’s gacha, a folksy dress with embroidery, kerchief and rose (and an apron with a texture-change HUD. Cari McKeenan made this lovely headpiece that has a menu with several colors for the flowers. SigiFaust made a set of rings that she has fashioned to fit several popular mesh hands with beautiful Russian-inspired textures. And Rucy Byron’s amazing boots with their incredible textures and mesh-work complete my Sasha’s look.

I spent a lot of time trying on different hair colors from VivienMarli’s long locks for Shiny Shabby and finally struck upon this apricot-blond as a perfect color, reminiscent of a dream of a spring in the steppes maybe. And Monicuzza has fashioned a beguiling skin for the event that includes several brow tones, which is what made the look complete. I found the blonde was just perfect with this skin tone and the lips are beautifully rendered with a sprinkling of freckles across the nose.

I love this song from Patti Smith, a gruff sweet song for an edgy look with its own bit of sweetness. The 100 Block opened yesterday and there are a ton of great looks at the “garage sale” they are putting on. Every exclusive item is marked down 20% or more. Like this hoodie mini-dress from Cynthia Ultsch, that is available in four colors and includes a HUD to texture the dress in different configurations, including the ties. The dress is made for standard sizes AND mesh body sizes. My boots are also from 100 Block, and they are Tatyana Ultsch’s offer, available in a ton of colors and also with a HUD to change looks up. They are custom mesh from Tatyana and yes, have been made for mesh bodies, including the Maitreya body. (Don’t they fit well?)

I am wearing the Aria mesh head from LeLutka because Aida Ewing recently came out with makeup appliers for the head, and I wanted the chance to swap up a new look. Several in the collection are very specialized and avant garde, but this look is perfect for our tough girl with glossy red lips and smoky eyes. Ikira Frimon is featuring this darling braided ‘do with blunt-cut bangs at 100 Block, edgy enough for this look but cute enough to take the edge off our tough girl.

A beautiful cosmic song of love and I have a gorgeous look to go with it. First I start with this luxurious silk look from LeEnfantTerrible, a silk robe over a very short tunic that is labeled a “dress,” but goodness knows it’s a short dress. I absolutely loved the textures she shows on these pieces, which come 2-for-1 at Chapter Four, so you get two gorgeous looks. The colors are vibrant, the style is sexy without being crass, and the feel is pure luxury.

I accessorized with a jewelry set Caelen Hancroft is featuring at 100 Block when it opens on April 9. All exclusive items at 100 Block are marked down 20% or more so you will be able to pick up this pretty mesh set, which includes a HUD for texture change on three different parts of the metal and the beads. Zaara Kohime has come out with gorgeously-textured ethnic bags, also made in mesh and done with her special touch of color. Available in a variety of colors, the bags can add spice to any look. Finally, Poulet Koenkamp is featuring these space age sandals at The Instruments with three different sets of color-change HUDs to give you a variety of looks.

Nicole Button has been going through her inventory of skins and upgrading them with new features, a full set of appliers (and I mean full set), brow varieties, several cleavage choices, and just a whole lot of goodness. I added her gloss to the lips on the pretty lips for this skin. I am wearing the darling hair from MissAllSunday Lemon from the Xiasumi School Fair, an anime-inspired cut with tendrils around the face. I love these bright blue eyes from Soleil Reid. Usually I am not for bright eyes, but these make the look with this gorgeous dress.

Spring Fever

It’s certifiably spring and I have a bounce in my step and flight in my wings. Mami Jewell just came out with this gorgeous dress, made for the MVW 2nd Runner-Up, Issy Flatley. I had to try on the cover dress in Coral because it was just so lovely, especially the way Mami combined mesh and flexi pieces to create a beautiful ruffled confection of a dress with movement and curviness.

I took my shots at the Un Jour sim that Siestabril Nitely built. With little outposts of flowered islands, some set with posed props, I had some fun taking photos in this beautiful dress. I purchased a head piece from Siestabril to suit the environment and spent some time happily snapping away.

Of course, the core of my luminescent look comes from Stasey Oller’s gorgeous skin for the Skin Fair. I was always used to her very bold and glossy lipsticks at many events but she has turned that glossiness to a subtle beauty in this set of skins that are sexy and innocent at once with a lovely glow. Stasey offers a ton of appliers with a beautifully detailed body. And thank goodness Mina Nakamura is offering this updo with a essentials color set because the blond matched the skin perfectly and with its romantic tendrils, added the final touch.

The Feminine Mystique

When I was in college, I did a paper about the watershed that World War II brought  to women’s liberation. After working in the factories and offices of America while the men were away fighting, women were once again relegated to the homes when the soldiers came home. And they discovered it wasn’t enough. Past the beautiful lawns, the lovely houses, the equipped kitchens, middle-class women were slowly realizing their dissatisfaction with the suburban life.

It’s an irony that women seemed to have it so good but rebelled in the 60s and 70s. I was inspired by a few pieces that have recently come out. This look reminiscent of a 50s housewife made me think of June Cleaver or Harriet Nelson. An easy dress from monlmanl, which she made for Shiny Shabby, is a perfect outfit for our ideal housewife, especially with flats that Senzati0n Domenitzo will be featuring at the Luck of the Irish Gacha (opening on the 10th). A great big handbag from Gianna Brody carries her wallet, head scarf, gloves and tube of lipstick for touchup plus the keys to the big Buick her husband bought her to drive to the grocery store.

Maybe it was because their lives were unfulfilling. With this full array of cleaning items from MadPea’s gacha at the Arcade, a 50s housewife could carry on the task of her womanly duties. The vacuuming and rug-cleaning, the mopping, the window washing, the ironing and the sauna are all covered with these darling pieces, perfect for scattering around your SL house to show you keep clean in your other life. (Remember that the MadPea crew’s top dog comes from a Scandinavian country so sauna supplies are not that odd.)

Bubbles Clawtooth’s hair was also the inspiration for this look. This drop-dead darling cut, reminiscent of the prettiest of 50s ladies, made my look perfect. I can see this hairstyle easily being used for contemporary looks as well, it’s so versatile and cute. I vamped up Umazuma Metaluna’s skin with firey red lips from Constance Daehlie that she is featuring at Anybody. My pearls are oldies but goodies, hand assembled from prims (!) by Polly Pavlova.

I am floating on a cloud because who wouldn’t dream of this? The dress, the housework, the cleaning. Oh yay.

The Simple Life

I have a bit of cabin fever. I need to just get out, hit the road, do something. So I suggested to Mr. Beresford that we take to the road. I imagined a life of leisure, of thoughtful moments and quiet repose. A life where we could enjoy the fresh air and the flowers and the springtime. Where I could wear flowers in my hair (Bubbles Clawtooth’s fabulous look from the Arcade) and flirty ruffled dresses (ValentinaEvangelista’s specifically, from Shiny Shabby) and lounge around.

He was amenable but when he saw our proposed living space (a great camper from Wavie Haller from the Arcade), he snorted and said, “Your *shoes* will not fit in there.”

“But honey,” I said, “We can go through our things and sort out what we don’t need to take. It’s time to simplify our lives.”

Of course, we went back and forth. His programming books, of course, had to go along and well, all my fiction (see the huge pile of books from DanielEstro and Anaisterpellie from Shiny Shabby). He wanted to take all his computers along but I said no, we have other things to occupy our time. (And yes, two fit cozily in that bed.)

Of course, I had just gotten the new collections from the Arcade of the Cupcake Bunnies from Sway Dench and the Cats Out of the Bag from Trace Osterham, so I wanted to bring them along because they were so cute, which caused quite a fuss between us, but I managed to shrink them up and put them on a shelf or two. He grumbled and tried to sneak in an extra monitor (or two or three) but I put the kibosh on that.

We sorted, we argued, we hemmed, we hawed. After all our negotiations, we realized we would have to pull an additional trailer behind us for everything we simply couldn’t do without (including, yes, my shoes). But we did manage to pack up a couple boxes of things to discard….
