Everyone needs a good friend to snuggle up to when it’s cold. I think I found the ideal friend—in the final KittyCats Advent Calendar gift. Umazuma Petaluna had created a set of lovely skins for Arcade, copies of which can probably still be found in yard sales for gacha items. I would recommend you grab them when you can because they are gorgeous, with full lips and a beautifully rendered body. My hair is one of Truth’s more recent releases, a tousled sexy ‘do with Truth’s handy texture-change HUD. Peeking from behind a lock of hair, my lovely blue eyes (matching my KittyCat’s eyes almost) are available in Keiba’s store.

Today I can’t be tamed. Start with a top from LeeZu Baxter, a system top done in Leezu’s magnificent artistry with ruffles at the bottom, little buttons, clipped straps. The old fashioned system piece, when done well, is still a wonderful avatar look and Leezu is one of the few that has the skill to pull it off. I pair it with Ivey Deschanel’s gift from the KittyCats Advent Calendar—a set of wild mesh pants with animal skin on the cuff. She includes four pairs in the gift—this is one of them. It’s a perfect gift for wild cats.

Aida Ewing recently released the Kaelyn skin, which I have enjoyed wearing in the India tone. Some of the makeups are bold and some are subtle. This one is in between. AvaGardner Kungler offers this chic necklace based on organic shapes and probably real life jewelry. I love how Ava experiments with her jewelry, shapes and colors. Finally, Mina Nakamura put out this great side swept tousled look. I love how it wraps around the neck with pieces going down in back and a lock escaping in the front. It’s so natural and wild.

The Residents

My friend, Tutsy Navarathna, recently released a new machinima that posed a really interesting question. What happens when someone from “outside” comes to our world? What do they see?

In this case, two aliens end up in our world, trying to understand the humans they see. But the machinima has a brilliant SL twist. I won’t say much more except I will encourage you to watch the whole thing. (At just over 10 minutes long, it’s a lot of content, very beautifully assembled, and it has an actual story of interest, which beats most machinima I have seen. Besides the beautiful imagery, showing some of the best sims of SL, the story is interesting and humorous.)

I was inspired by the many “humans” Tutsy’s aliens encountered to make a human of my own in the same spirit. She is casual and otherworldly. First I start with a cute knit top from Sanura Snowpaw in a chic black and white stripe, off the shoulder mesh. Then I add Paul Lapointe and Bastchild Lotus’ boot flared jeans with their brilliant texture change HUD. (The jeans come in a bazillion colors but I chose black to make this look.) Finally I end up with Pixieplumb Flanagan’s funky boots that also include a texture-change HUD—and I chose zebra print.

Of course, Aida Ewing’s recent release of fairy skins inspired me in this blakc and white look. With beautifully rendered grays, the skin makes my “human” aetherial. A pair of intense gift eyes from Silverr Andel (part of a very generous set put out for the Peace on Earth hunt) creates her spark of life. And Kavar Cleanslate’s wild ponytails, using one of his crazier texture sets, makes my girl a combination of casual and unusual—a perfect “resident” for our aliens to observe.

Finally, I share a tableau of residents, some of whom the aliens might encounter, in a typical scene in front of a holiday fireplace, generously provided by Misa for the KittyCats Advent Calendar for yesterday. She includes sitting rugs for “humanoids,” “dinkies” and “tinies.” I got Maxxi Toxx in his tiny avatar to come over and lie in front of the fire on the tiny rug to demonstrate. (You have to see the machinima to “get” the photo—it will all make sense.)

I got an email from Doctor Gascoigne today that said, “I voted for you,” in the subject line and nothing else. I had to email back asking what he was talking about and he pointed to me the Avi Choice Awards, where I was listed as a candidate for best blogger. I was really surprised! Wedged between such heavyweights as Fabulously Free in SL, Hamlet Au, Inara Pey and Juicybomb was little old me. I am, needless to say, very honored just to be among their company and if you are planning on voting for Hamlet and have a shaky hand, well I won’t stop you from accidentally clicking on my name. That being said, I am behind on my blogger duties due to SL weirdness and oh, sleepiness. I’ll admit it. I couldn’t stay up last night to finish my photos. I heard it’s really hot in California, like a heat wave. I wonder what starlets wear when it’s hot out. Do they just hide in air-conditioned luxury or do they venture forth so the paparazzi can photo them? I dressed up as if I was expecting photos, wearing this lacy dress from Ariadna Garrigus that shows off all my hard work at the gym. With a black lingerie set underneath, this open work dress is perfect for a very hot day, letting in any cool breeze. High heels from Pixieplumb Flanagan (at a rock bottom price at Acid Lily—stars indeed ARE just like us) make the outfit complete.

I am wearing Ava Grau’s gorgeous new skin again because it’s such a great look for blondes, especially with Kavar Cleanslate’s blonde textures, this applied to a gorgeous side-gathered look. Blue Monday

It’s a blue Monday only in color—not in feelings.

It’s truly a delightful Monday. Miko Omegamu has just come out with another dress, and as always, it’s the picture of elegance and sophistication. One of the best pieces any woman can have in her wardrobe is a wrap dress and Miko makes this to perfection with a silk charmeuse fabric, elegantly tailored. I decided to dress it up with pearls from Mouse Mimistrobell and matching slingbacks from Pixieplumb Flanagan. A little clutch from Indyra Seigo adds a little pop.

Finally I wear an elegant twist from Elikapeka Tiramisu (this outfit is all about twists and wraps if you didn’t notice) and Mocksoup Graves adds a perfect tint with her lip stain on a beautiful birthday gift Rhapzody Wilde offered at her store celebration.

Purple Perfection

Purple is the color of royalty. That’s what makes it classy and remarkable. I put together these great separates to make a purple outfit for a lady of sophistication.

First start with this top from Carrie Snowpaw. Carrie has ingeniously made a blouse with a blouse-on sculpty prim addition that makes the blouse look like it’s blousing out at the bust while tight around the waist. She also made some pretty prim buttons and I love the frilled cuffs. My skirt is a versatile piece from Chrystina Noel. With its sculpty skirt and cute tweed texture, it’s a great skirt for many outfits.

I have a pretty skin with purple makeup from Alexandra Barcelos and I couldn’t resist wearing eggplant eyes from Ikon Innovia. My earrings were a special pair Abraxxa Anatine made for RFL. And check out the pumps from Pixieplumb Flanagan—inexpensive and chic!

When I am a young woman I will wear purple too ;)

Dress Up

One of the most appealing features of SL, of course, is the ability to dress up our avatars. This game of dress up is an entire dissertation in itself. Let’s just leave it at liking to put together pretty colors for today ;)

I got this little dress from youki Cioc’s eclectic store a while ago and have been trying to find a time and place to show it. I love the multiple layers of prims, the big blooming cabbage rose print, the lovely use of the shoulder pieces and armlets. I had been wearing Pixieplumb Flanagan’s new little sneakers and the color matched perfectly while the style was a tomboyish juxtaposition, so why not? A pair of lacey ankled socks from Naoki Ninetails just made the look complete.

When I put together outfits it’s always an odd process. I have to be inspired by something—a song, a quote, the start of look. This time it was the freckles I got from Launa Fauna. I had seen freckles on another avatar as a tattoo layer and I found them charming. This inexpensive tattoo layer really did the trick layered over Alexandra Barcelos’ new Kiona skin (which I am wearing twice in a row here, but isn’t it just perfect?). Then I popped on this ginger hair from Queue Marlowe (who is off to the Continent for a few weeks—I miss her already) and this darling hat from siestabrill Nitely. What a gorgeous face.

Kunglers at Fashion for Life

Dear Readers–I know I have not blogged in a couple days. I apologize. (And I hate when people put this in their blogs but I have a reason!) Fashion for Life is in full swing for preparation and I have been terrifically busy. I can’t wait to see you all there!

The Kungler sisters, AvaGardner and Barbra, are sisters in RL. Hailing from Brazil, the sisters swap ideas back and forth from their Southern Hemisphere homes to make elegant and sporty fashions for women across the grid.

A visit to their store is a peek inside their dollhouse. It’s a home filled with sleek, elegant women wearing the latest fashions in a variety of lush prints and colors. Silk features prominently as does leather. They use some of the most gorgeous prints in the grid, carefully juxtaposing colors for the most pleasing and fashion-forward looks.

When AvaGardner learned of the theme of FFL, she IM’d me and asked if she really had to make black and white—she’s only about color. I told her the theme was about going “Beyond Black and White,” so we are guaranteed to see bold and bright colors from both sisters for the FFL donations. Their colors will reflect the support that the American Cancer Society provides for those diagnosed with cancer as well as their families. Their funding of research and programs brings color and life and to an otherwise seemingly hard situation.

Both AvaGardner and Barbra have supported RFL in the past and they join Fashion for Life for the first time this year. They will donate four items with all benefits going to RFL but they furthered their support with their donation as VIP Sponsors.

Rights

Thomas Hobbes has an interesting, brutish argument about rights: we have no rights except that the Authority or the State give us. “Inalienable” rights don’t exist. In SL that’s totally true (unlike in RL where rights ARE inalienable—go Egypt!) You simply can’t do stuff unless the client/server/LL let you. You’re simply not going to rez if the client ain’t havin’ it. You’re not logging in if LL shuts down the servers, period. And you’re not moving my prims unless I give you the right to.

What amazes me as I scroll down my list is how many people have given me the right to mess with their stuff, a function of the structure of SL. Raven has, of course. But also a famous builder in SL, a few shop owners, and some nice friends. I could literally blow away someone’s sim with these powers—but I don’t. Why? Well, first, they also have rights over my things and could return the favor. But that’s not a deterrent really. There is trust there—and respect. I respect the work they have done immensely and would NEVER touch it. In fact, I work especially carefully when I know I am around prims belonging to someone who has given me edit rights. They gave me the rights, but I handle those rights with respect. It’s a mutual set of responsibilities, a careful balance that seems to work 99.9% of the time across SL.

Enough of my ruminating (and there was more to come.. I erased several paragraphs). One thing that is important we have been given is the right to dress up our avatars. (And remember, what LL gives you as “rights,” like attachment points, layers, etc., is purely a function of what is in their best interest economically.) I wear this shorty short, drop-shoulder sweater from Hina Cheri over cute striped tights from Fae Erickson. This seems a good outfit for the season—a little push for spring without being too cold, cinched with a handsomely stylish belt from sachi Vixen. I will concede the sweater has some difficulties—the prim had to be adjusted several times, the sides wrap around oddly on the leg. Nevertheless it’s a cute fashion statement.

I have me some cute boots from Pixieplumb Flanagan, who offers stylish footwear at an affordable price. She has given me the right to change colors on these lovelies with a mere click of the sock or boot. Mirja Mills does the same with the hat and scarf of this lovely new release from her. I love her natural hair color!

The biggest right I received today was the right to show you Hart Larsson’s newest release, Linda. As per his other skins, this is a hand-drawn piece of work with sensual detailing and Hart’s own aesthetic preference for a woman with more defined and sophisticated features. I have put the cat eyes on over the regular makeup. Hart ingeniously decided to offer a base skin with lip colors and then eye shadows that can be worn on the tattoo layer (unlike many who offer lip choices for eyes on makeup). I am  not sure which I prefer—having eyes or lips separate.
