Joanie, Joanie.. Where ARE you, Joanie?

Let’s face it—the rest of the world can’t help but let it self into SL. In this case, the need for Mad Men to show their fourth season is getting urgent in my household. I need some advertising. I need some people drinking and smoking recklessly. I need some big hair, stat!

Joanie

I am reproducing Joan here (played by the voluptuous Christina Hendricks) in a dress by Ikaria Daviau. Ikaria offers mid-range clothing for career women in SL (meaning business) with some dressier pieces mixed in. They are good, clean system pieces without a lot of daring-do.

Joanie

My skin is from Tuli’s newest line, employing the “c” option (the bustiest one). I had tried to lay a great tattoo layer on top, but 2.0 has been icky for me. That will have to wait for another blog. I wear a hair from Bubbles Clawtooth I pull out time and time again (without wearing the kitten).

Greg [to Joan]: You don’t know what it’s like to want something your whole life, plan on it and not get it.

Carrot Top

For the redheads on the grid, life can be very hard. First of all, there is the business of finding the right red. There is red, auburn, crimson, copper, burgundy, fire, blood, wine, and the many variations thereof (dark red, fiery wine, dark fiery burgundy wine). Then you have to find a skin that works well. Do you use a brown brown? A light brow? Do you put on a black? Life is tough for us redheads! (Yes, I can see you reading this with sympathy.)

Carrot Top

Mallory Cowen is solving that for you with her release of Julie. Mallory has finally decided to help us poor lonely beleaguered redheads by giving us a skin with a gentle glow, sweet beautiful freckles and the red eyebrows that will match our carrot top hair. I was once a Raq girl. Seeing myself in this skin, I see hints of Harper from the old days. A full view of the skin shows you a well defined collar bone, delectable cleavage, and long pretty legs.

Carrot Top

To show off those legs, I am wearing a cute little dress from Jeter Jun. This set comes with leggings and full legwarmers, but I wanted to show a little leg. Notice the peekabo bra, the lace at the base of the glitch pants and the finely textured prims. You get a great bargain in this very well-made outfit.

Finally, chic shoes with a flying bird motif. Magnifico Miggins has made these half cylinder heels in response to the latest fashion in heels, supplying these with funky chunky soles and eensy straps.

Gentlemen may prefer blondes, but it takes a real man to handle a redhead.

Hey, Red!

It’s interesting. You walk into this world. You have to make a “self.” When I first walked into SL, it was clear to me that I would have to have red hair. I am not sure what decided this for me so distinctly, but there you go—I had to be a redhead.

I have since diverged from this, of course. I have even worn blonde hair, which was a huge step for me personally. (Nothing against blondes. I just never saw myself as having light hair. I can’t explain it.) And I always go for the easy choice in clothes—red. (Which looks good on me in RL too.) So today, I went the easy route and chose red.

Hey, Red!

I found this dress at a store on a new sim called Period. The creator, Memai Avon, presented a number of great separates—skirts, tops, tights, leggings. Nothing was outre or niche. She offered simple, inexpensive separates that could serve in many circumstances. I purchased this pretty dress with it’s red rose motif. My shopping partner and I agreed that the flat black through the dress was kind of a cheat (black hides a lot of mistakes and problems), but the dress was reasonably priced and looks great worn, and she has a lot of other great pieces that show quite a bit of skill.

Hey, Red!

At the same mall we found some spectacular hair by Ilze Erin. Offering several styles that frame the face in a most complimentary fashion, her store deserves attention and I hope we see more from her. I dressed up this ensemble with jewelry from DarionMonkee Levitt. It’s really cute stuff made by a person who clearly has incredible patience.

Hey, Red!

And check out these shoes. Red straps, red nails—*click click* and I have them on these sexy sandals from Maris Kanto. Maris is a scripter extraordinaire (or knows one) because these shoes have a great hud for adjusting skin tone (a notch at a time so you can SEE what it will look like), nails, and hardware and size. Add to that the fun of shopping at Kalnins—regular shoppers get discounts and points based on the scripts used in the vendors. It’s all about the experience, from shopping to wearing.
