RFL for My Sisters

Throughout the week I have show fashions that are being given as items by designers around the grid to benefit RFL. The beauty of the Fair is its international flavor—9 sims, 8 cities from around the world. It’s also amazing the worldwide reach of the designers contributing to this cause, from the US to Australia, Japan to Brazil. Cancer knows no borders; it finds its way around the world.

RFL for My Sisters

One of my best and most unexpected finds was this amazing outfit by Syngen Sohmers. Her contribution of this outfit, which does include the kind of modest head covering that may be chosen by some Muslim women, reminds us that there are many who are affected by cancer. It also reminds us that the American Cancer Society finances funding and research around the world. For example, this research helps my sisters around the world to learn about proper breast cancer and cervical cancer screening. It reaches past the barriers of cultural differences to that fundamental humanness of our lives. Syngen’s fidelity to the colors and styling of such an outfit is amazing. I was delighted to get it.

RFL for My Sisters

I show her outfit with one of Tuli Asturias’ new Eva skins, this time in Tone 7. Her new set of skins are lovely and *finally* released for everyone to enjoy. I think we have missed having Tuli on the grid—welcome back.

Rise, Gentle Moon, Rise

I had to show another set of items I picked up at the RFL Clothing Fair and the Melt exhibition, combined to make a very interesting look.

Rise, Gentle Moon, Rise

Aradhana Voight has made a beautiful gold dress to benefit RFL as well as being sponsor of the absolutely gorgeous New Delhi sim built by Grace Loudon. With its amazingly shimmering gold textures (making gold look like this in SL is no easy feat) and beautiful silhouette, this Indian-inspired gown is magnificent and sleek for any occasion. Aradhana cleverly adds a feathery optional waist skirt that can also be worn as a separate piece so you can wear the top with pants.

Rise, Gentle Moon, Rise

I show it with this amazing skin from Juliette Westerburg for the Melt exhibition. Again, having the artists combine efforts based on a common theme was a great exercise for all of those who participated. Some, like Juliette really answered the call, in this case using her great skills in texturing to create magical and fantastic skins. I like seeing her go from her “everyday girl” fashions to this more artistic and fanciful skin. It shows the girl has some chops and can think outside that same old box. The hair is a crazy cool piece I bought at Hair Fair last year made by Miranda Milestone. I had never had the opportunity to use until now. It needed an equally cool look to make it all make sense.

Blue Mist for RFL

What is so terrific about SL is that you can put together a really esoteric look and it’s ok. You can go out, no one will make a wide berth for you like you are nuts, and you can have a wearable artistic expression.

Blue Mist

I travelled to the Tokyo sim at RFL for this beautiful dress from CelestialRay Serpente. With its combination of layered textures (roses and gradients and pearls and fish scales) and diaphanous quality, it is complete fantasy. The gown also comes with another attachment that serves as a sort of fishy mermaid tail and a fuller ballgown skirt I don’t show here. It also has a “sexy’ version of the top showing shadows over the bust.

Blue Mist

I paired it with an exquisite skin from Launa Fauna made for the Melt installation. I entered the “installation” and the main message I got from it was that a group of creators decided to get together and come up with an artistic challenge for creating content around a loose them of ice or cold and sell those creations. I thought it was a terrific idea for these young artists to do that. The combination of the cohort of creators creates a sort of energy that they can all tap from. This is what SL is all about!

Mysterious for RFL

Have you ever seen that raven-haired woman, the one with the sly smile on her face and the legs up to there, wearing sexy boots with stiletto heels and looking mysterious and interesting?

Darksexy for RFL

Me too. Never met her. Never had the guts to talk to her. She was kind of intimidating. That doesn’t mean I can’t try dressing up like her for this post, and wearing Solange Cerveau’s offering to benefit RFL might be the ticket to unlocking her secrets. With Solange’s incredible system skills and sexy aesthetic, this dress comes off sexy and elegant all at once. Solange has always gotten “it”—having a short skirt is not all that’s needed. She has full sleeves ending in lace cuffs, a sexily wrapped torso and then she shows skin with a criss-cross back, plunging neckline and a skirt up as far as it can go before it just becomes crass. Solange, like Delora, was obligated to make her ads PG especially for the Fair; check out her great ads at the Fair.

Darksexy for RFL

Tuli Asturias’ Eve skin seems pretty innocuous and sweet for the most part until you wear it with these red lips and the sparkly eyeshadow (how does she do that). Pair it with this wicked hair from Lamb Bellic and suddenly you have a beautiful alternative girl, a suicidegirl with a great collar made by Vasha Martinek. (By the way, I have a frowny face Harper shape—one that looks like a fashion model. I tried her face shape with this look, and it was all wrong. I went back to slightly smiling Harper. She is much sexier, I think. Who wouldn’t want to know what’s making her smile?)

I am showing the gothic boots from Oct Oakleaf’s new offerings, this time with the handy uh.. cuffs removed. (Get the scoop on the cuffs here.) Oct has made some very darksexy boots here with the filigree embossed in red on a supple black leather. Check the beautiful folds around the ankle—now that’s a sculpty.

Lavender for RFL

As you wander around the RFL Clothing Fair, you will see a lot of designers have featured purple or lavender as the color on their creations. Lavender is the color for the awareness ribbon for cancer, and besides it’s a great fashion color, especially in spring.

Lavender for RFL

Sissy Pessoa chose this for one of her beautiful offerings for RFL. This bold purple will get you noticed but Sissy’s elegant style makes it less garish than stunningly noticeable. With her great sculpty skirt, embellished with flowers at the waist and neckline, this sweet little kicky dress will take you around the grid from one dance hall to the next.

Lavender for RFL

Then you have the jewelry Abraxxa Anatine is debuting at the RFL Clothing Fair. Abraxxa is the most prolific and talented of jewelers in SL, bar none, and this set features again her amazing talents. From the irregularly shaped semi-precious stones to the beautifully textured silverwork holding them, you can’t get better than this. And the styling of this set makes it perfect for this dressier look or a more dressed down ensemble. I wear this beautiful look with Lorac Farella’s equally beautiful new skin from her Emotional series.

Lavender for RFL

Finally I show cute purple pumps from NovaStar Shilova, also being offered as an RFL special. Nova has been making terrific clothing and shoes for a while. It’s great to see her spreading her wings and offering some of her wonderful stuff at the RFL Clothing Fair.

Around the World at RFL

As I have mentioned about a million times, the RFL Clothing Fair sims are built around a theme of traveling around the world. What is even more interesting is that you really ARE traveling around the world when you visit this fair. Contributors for this endeavor come from the four corners of the globe, amazingly. As you touch down in each sim, you will find contributors from that very country occupying the sim. Go to Rio, they are all having Festival; go to Tokyo, they are speaking in Japanese; go to Paris and the gentle murmur of French can be heard; and I won’t even tell you what they are doing on the Melbourne sim, but I can guarantee it involves lots of boisterousness.

Around the World with RFL

For example, morea Decosta has contributed this very sexy dress whose proceeds go entirely to RFL. With its long flowing sleeves but dangerously short skirt and quick access wrap style, it’s perfect for the lady who wants to like to wrap up in silken sensuousness. morea is a lovely European lady who likes to make women feel and look sexy. And she is helping support RFL, so give her some goodness back at the Paris sim.

Around the World with RFL

I travel to another part of the world with this lovely skin, made by milok Hermit from Korea. I always struggle trying to find skins that are not sparkly Caucasian or Malibu Barbie, for that matter. milok has a variety of skins that are not Barbie-like, all at a reasonable price. I was absolutely taken with this skin, which for once eliminates the fold in the eyelid, making the skin truly Pan Asian. The earrings are pretties I got from Anemysk Karu at the Accessory Fair.

Finally, the boots are brand spankin’ new (pun intended just a bit as you will see), just out by Oct Oakleaf. They are available in two versions—regular and 2.0. Regular employs good old invisiprims, but the 2.0 uses the new alpha layer for the leg to create the invisibility needed to jam your poor mesh foot into that pointy toe so you can teeter on that needle-thin heel (all in the name of fashion). Oct has also scripted in the ability to show or remove that seemingly innocuous little strapped-on buckle there (which is really an ankle cuff that is enabled for use with the Lockmeister and Lockguard sets of scripts, if you have such an inkling). It comes with a pair of cuffs I am wearing which are also fashionably sculpted and functionally scripted. I will not be sending you to a ponygirl store this time, however, so feel safe.

Roses for RFL

The coolest thing about the RFL Clothing Fair is that it is a huge mall, full of tons of designers, established and not, who are giving a piece of their work in benefit of cancer research but are also getting a chance to show off to a group of people they may not customarily hit. I have found some of my favorite designers in SL at the RFL Clothing Fair, previously unknown to me.

Roses for RFL

Elle74 Zaftig is a designer whose work you should get to know while you are there. I had met Elle74 Zaftig before because she did me the fine favor of making custom kilts for a friend (the McAlister and Wallace kilts now found in her shop). All she asked for were the tartans and she went to town. And boy does she know how to make a kilt. Now, there is nothing like a man in a kilt—the way his hips sway, the strength of his legs, the promise underneath. Elle gets that. She made this one specially for the RFL vendors—all proceeds will go to RFL. I suggest, gentlemen, if you want to catch a discerning lady’s eye, you get this one.

Roses for RFL

Elle also makes beautiful gowns. She made a McAlister tartan gown for me at one time that was stunning (and is being sold at RFL—woot!), and here she turns to making a more traditional gown to sell alongside the kilt. The most beautiful part of this gown, of course, is the trimming around the chest and arms. Look at the beautiful roses and laces and ribbons. (And Elle priced this at a mere 250L to get many buyers and donations—grab it!) I wear with this a lovely ring and earrings I got from Serenite Stransky’s shop at the Accessory Fair.

Roses for RFL

Finally let me talk about skin. I am wearing Tuli Asturias’ newest release, Eva. She has finally gotten a chance to get back in world to grace us all with her considerable talents. Eva is a subtle and beautiful. I have worn the preview skin over and over for these blogs; now she has come out with them, I get to wear the full set. You will be seeing more of these skins over the coming weeks.

Roses for RFL

Another skin maker I have been rockin on is KaoZ Koba (who with his fierce partner, Pompeja Rossini, has been running LaVie). You saw his work on my manly man. Now see him on this manly Scot in his kilts. (By the way, this kilt does have glitch pants. However, her men’s leather kilts are commando—as they should be ;))

Roses for RFL

How grand the human race would be
If every man would wear a kilt,
A flirt of Tartan finery,
Instead of trousers, custom built!
