First Impressions

…it would be interesting to find out what goes on in that moment when someone looks at you and draws all sorts of conclusions. –Malcolm Gladwell

First Impressions

What’s the first impression you want to give? The thing about our avatars is that they are aspirational—the representation of the impression we want others to have. Do we want to be glamorous and flamboyant, down-to-earth and folksy, standoffish and sleek, elegant and friendly? I aim for the latter. Elegance is always my goal. This latest dress from AvaGardner Kungler makes that easy with the simple sleeveless sheath ending in a sleek skirt with kick pleats (which I find so ingeniously done here—two separate prim attachments). A thin red leather belt (the dress comes with three choices) punctuates the look with color as do my sexy shoes from Rosie Lavochkin.

First Impressions

I picked up this skin by Miah McAuley at the Dressing Room Blue. I was surprised at its sophistication, to be honest. Miah has a lot of win in her work from the nicely shaped eyebrows to the luscious lips and subtle shading across the skin. A simple sophisticated bob from boo Nakamura is really all I need to give a good impression.

Again, done in Phoenix with screen capture. Very frustrating but working it out.

Feel Good

SLCC is over but I didn’t miss it all. I heard from many friends who are in Boston and got to see Philip’s speech (from the horse’s mouth rather than through everyone’s analysis). I even got to do a presentation, though this time it was from THIS side of the screen rather than from the dias as last year.

Feel Good

I feel a bit better about SL after hearing Philip speak. I think I needed to know they were actually setting down a list of priorities and goals for those priorities. Some people are not going to be happy, but as the old adage goes, you can’t make everyone happy all the time. I feel pretty good about things just knowing something is being done, so I “feel good.”

That being said, have you been to Pixel Dolls lately? Pixel Dolls was one of my first indulgences in SL, and it proves the test of time. I got this dress yesterday and love it. Dolce Blackflag  reuses and reconsiders her beautifully drawn system pieces in different combinations and with a variety of prims. Her pieces are sexy and Victorian all at once with an abundance of romantic laces, brocades, pearls and buttons. Whereas true Victorian would have the body cinched and covered, Dolce shows off the sexiness of skin and femininity with her fashions. In this dress, she combines a beautifully rendered system piece with black pearls that hold the top barely shut. Lacy sleeve prims are echoed in the skirt,  netting dripping down in an almost ragged fashion. It’s much like a RL fashion collection–she has a definite vision and voice in her work and she uses a set of motifs and styles throughout her work.

Feel Good

I wear with the dress leggings from LeeZu Baxter, who delights us with the same sense of sexiness and fashion. These burlesque tights include chains around the knees (!) and garters that stretch from the thigh to the calf. Boots from Eshi Otawara complete the outfit—one of her own sculpties. She’s selling colored versions of these at the Shoe Fair for an unbeatable price. Can you beat a boot with such a pretty flower and such a whimsical (and structurally unsound) heel? I’d kill myself wearing these in RL but in SL? No problem! It’s all good ;)

Coquette

Every man’s dream is the woman who catches his eye across the club,  the one who smiles at him and catches his drift, the one who beckons him to come her way, buy her a drink, ask her to dance. Some men know the call and will go; some will get the call and not understand; some will never hear it.

Coquette

This might be the woman you want to get the call from. Dressed in a chic short skirt and flowy top, elegantly jeweled, you’ll wonder what she’s about. To dress her up, I have a top from Irie Campese, a pretty plum top with a great sculpty midriff that moves well with the avatar. I paired it with a skirt from Saeya Nyanda. I got this skirt a while ago but it works really well with this ensemble.

Coquette

I am showing the necklace that Sofi Trenkins offers as her RFL donation piece. Her work gets more and more impressive. This piece has a lovely reddish toned gem surrounded by silver with an eclectically shaped set of links. She smartly pairs more diminutive earrings with the set. Sometimes making earrings that are as bold as the necklace is a mistake. Make one piece the centerpiece—the others should accent it.

The skin is a new one from Heather Beebe and the coloring is perfect for this ensemble. Her skins are very nicely done, a happy medium between the more glossy or glowy skins and the matte model skins out there.

Coquette

Finally, I have boots from Rosie Lavochkin, her RFL donation. These are simple boots—sexy, easy to wear, not full of scripts and bling and blessedly, heel clicks. (Well she has invisiprims with and without. Just toss the “with” away and know you are walking the grid with class.)

Queen

Ever meet a woman with magnificence? It’s the only word I can think of—magnificence. She’s a queen. She’s strong, quiet, commanding.

Queen

I found the outfit for such a queen at Isaura Simon’s store. With her beautifully drawn textures (especially the gems wrapping around the torso and the motif gem piece), Isaura knows how to dress a powerful woman. Her garments say she owns this place. This ensemble comes complete with the staff which has a mini AO built in that includes poses such as the one you see above.

Queen

Isaura carefully constructs her skirts with tiered prims and a close-up look will show gems falling off the shoulder pads—an incredible touch. Her system pieces are clean—no ghosting and a very gently rendered drop shadow to give more depth to the piece. The bra and panties underneath include a brilliant sparkling texture. It all works.

Queen

I wear hair from Sky Everett. Sky has been quiet as of late—producing but not spending a lot of time in SL, it seems. We miss you Sky :( Isn’t this hair magnificent?

I forewent the shoes sold with the outfit to go with some wonderfully detailed shoes from Rosie Lavochkin. Not only did Rosie include the signs of the zodiac across the main strap, but she imprints the big toenail with a gem and builds a shoe that is sexily strappy. (Check out the swirly on the heel.) These shoes are for women who mean business.

Art Opening

I have a friend in SL who is an avid art collector in SL and RL. The number of art shows this guy has been to has to be monumental. I personally have only been to a few in RL. There is a certain woman I always see, however, at these shows.

Art Opening

She is always thin, perpetually has a glass of red wine in her hand, and her hair is a study in planned insouciance (in this case planned by Rosie Lavochkin). She’s always slightly tipsy, her bold lipstick kissed on the edge of the glass, her sweater slipping off her gleaming shoulder. This sweater, from Mat Kungler, makes a perfect sweater for her… it’s loose and free but beautifully knit. You can tell it cost quite a penny but she wears it casually.

She also has on a pair of dressier slacks—usually something satiny to dress up the sweater and thin the silhouette. In this case a pair of expensive straight leg pants that bunch around the ankle from Morphine Janick—a bit wrinkly because our art lover doesn’t care if she looks a little tossed and turned.

Art Opening

She is missing one of the statement necklaces I see so many women like this wear, but she has the necklace and bracelet she picked up one of her trips to Mexico (from Kuranosuke Kamachi  and Bella Bombast respectively), and a quite expensive belt slung around her hips she got in a little boutique in Santa Fe. In fact, you can hear the clink and jangle of her bracelets as she flits around the room, smell the perfume waft behind her, see her lipstick a little smudged in the corners of her mouth as she engages in lively conversation. She’s got the room in her hand. She knows it.
