Out of the Blue

Out of the Blue

Out of the blue, you waltz back into my heart….

Out of the Blue

A pretty summer dress, sleeveless and elegant, is what a girl needs for a night out dancing. This lovely little dress from Sissy Pessoa fits the bill. With a sculpty top and skirt, it would almost seem it might not work but Sissy has built in all sorts of win with various sized tops (I put the XL on first by accident and flipped til I realized she had several tops to accommodate different sized avatars, which is a great move.) The skirt comes with and without an AO so you can try a different way of moving or not. The textures are, in Sissy’s usual manner, beautiful and stylish. She has her finger on fashionable prints.

Out of the Blue

My skin is the glowing and glorious new Audrey from Diarmiud Miklos, coming out on Saturday. I showed a different skin tone a couple days ago. Seeing it in tanned is a whole different story. The lips are bee-stung and beautiful, the eyes gloriously colored with ethereal shadows. My earrings are Rama Anatine’s offering for Accessory Fair, a loosely Egyptian-symbol-themed gold pair with a beautifully textured blue stone.

I have been showing you shapes from Freedom Parx/GM Nikolaidis for a couple months now under the name “Freestyle.” GM has opened a store for poses now and rebranded under the name “Fluke.” I am showing a handful of his poses here.

Out of the Blue

When I’m just about over you, you tear me apart.
With your smooth talking words, and promises from yesterday.
With the sound of your voice and the things that you say.

Givenchy, Interpreted

I like to wander real life fashion blogs and online magazines, especially on my iPad (all sorts of glitzy apps, dontcha know). It’s fun to see what people have designed and understand what’s going on. But honestly, the last time I walked into a store and asked for “Givenchy,” it was perfume, and it was on sale. But SL is nothing if it’s not aspirational, so one can try to replicate Givenchy in SL, non?

Givenchy

An outfit was shown in Givenchy’s fall show in Paris that caught my eye. The whole collection was a bloodbath—Riccardo Tisci apparently likes his goth or his Twilight or something. (Incidentally, they show a white gown with red creeping up the hem, very similar to one sold by Terry Lightfoot of To-a-T). A description of the whole seasonal aesthetic on Habillées pour was about anxiety due to the recession. Therefore, there is a lot of black, nuns, mysticism, satan and death. They showed this outfit and described “a procession of ghost women who had plunged their hands into the belly of the beast.” Eek!

I thought the outfit was elegant and shocking all at once and I thought it could be replicated in SL. The day after seeing the outfit, I lucked upon this pantsuit from Fhara Acacia, which was being offered at the Dressing Room. I altered it slightly to match my model—I raised the pant leg and added sleeves I made myself to the arms. I left the belt—I realize it’s extraneous but it is so well made I couldn’t let it go. Gloves are made by me using a random texture and SL’s available clothing editors. Shoes are strappy couture pumps I showed recently from Sissy Pessoa. They suit the aesthetic.

Givenchy

I forewent the model’s hair and decided on an updo from Salut Erin that I really like. I believe it’s made to be paired with a much more “innocent” look but I am all for subverting the text ;)

My skin is from aida Ewing and purposefully chosen to give me that “model” look—made up, theatrical, extreme—especially the lips. I piled on the extreme with a makeup tattoo from Saeya Nyanda which gives me the heavily lined cat eye look. In any other circumstance, that eyeliner would look clumsy and overdone, but not here.

Saffron Skirts

The light is golden in the trees right now; summer is giving us her one last tease before it rains, the leaves all fall off the trees and winter comes to us. I am relishing every moment.

Saffron Skirts

This beautiful skirt from Zaara Kohime reminded me of that gold through the leaves of the trees. With her lush colorways, terrific patterns and rendering of the skirt with all its wrinkles and its uneven hem, Zaara once again wows. I especially like the high waist on this skirt with the ties around the waist and the ruffled prim at the top.

Janie Marlowe has opened a new store called Jane (terrific branding). She offers basic separates that reflect the sort of “emo” aesthetic that is popular among a certain subset in SL—pastel, grungified shades on frumpy sweaters and knit tops—kinda like what people are really wearing when they are at the computer. Janie can’t keep from making it pretty though and this top has great shadowing with a pretty lace on the top.

Saffron Skirts

Finally I show two designers’ pieces from the Jewelry Fair. First, Mouse Mimistrobell has grown by leaps and bounds with her jewelry work. This is what happens when someone keeps working on it—soon the prims do what she wants rather than her doing what the prims want. Her jewelry is beautifully antiqued and nostalgic. This choker (and thank you for the choker because sometimes that is just what I want) has beautiful metal textures and an exquisitely prickly dried-flower shape with a stone center. I love the organic shape worked with a metal—so ingenious.

My ruffle bracelet is from Evijan Cazalet, who has a relatively new store. She offers stones (great textures) on chains, artistic bracelets and this ruffled number which comes with a color changer for the ruffles, so you get 9-for-one without all the inventory. (And her prices are VERY reasonable.)

The Woman with the Accent

Ever meet a woman of indeterminate origin? You know who I mean.. one who has an accent that you can’t quite place, a look and manner that is so eclectic you can’t say, oh, she’s from Boston or Buenos Aires or Berlin or Bangkok. All you know is she is not from your own small town.

The Woman with the Accent

She’s really nice, friendly, interesting when you meet her at your cousin’s boss’ wife’s cocktail party. She will tell you a story about where she got her lace top, this one being from Sissy Pessoa. “I found it in this very interesting boutique in Milan,” she’ll tell you. “And the woman there—what an artist! She sewed each button herself!” You’ll hear the perfect way she says “Milan” and inspect the top, which is indeed made of the finest black Italian lace, and conclude she has to be Italian.

She catches you checking out her skirt and leggings, and she explains she got them in Japan from this great designer, cocoro Lemon. “There is something so marvelous about feathers,” she laughs as she pushes around the food on her plate with her chopsticks, picking up the sushi appetizer with such skill, you would swear she was Japanese.

The Woman with the Accent

She seems to be eating but none of ever it goes in her mouth or so it seems because her bold red lipstick is never smudged. Then you will compliment her makeup and she’ll tell you all about this great American artist, Lorac Farella, who has created a most unique makeup line that combines a gothic and pale look for the average woman, so she has a darker and more elegant look. And then you think, hm, she has to be from New York.

The Woman with the Accent

She fluffs her flexi ostrich feathered skirt and your eyes travel down to her boots as she sets down her plate still full of food (she *looked* like she was eating but nothing went down). The boots, leather with zippers all over, are also from Japan—the same cocoru Lemon, she explains. “Ah Tokyo!” she smiles. She sets down her empty champagne glass (the second one—she DOES seem to be swallowing that down), scans the crowd looking for the next person to speak to, and gives you a sweet little smile. “Nice meeting you,” she says. “Toodle-loo!”
