The Afternoon Knows

The Afternoon Knows

The afternoon knows what the morning never suspected.” ~ Jonathan Grimwood

The Afternoon Knows

I took a walk at Flux Sur Mer on sunny afternoon (thanks to windlight, which I see left some shadows on my skins from the trees) and enjoyed the beauty of the sim and idle shopping. I wore one of Hilly Haalan’s new dresses, a cute mini that comes with a great texture-change HUD to allow mix and match between the top, skirt, belt and tie. It’s a fabulous dress, very versatile and sexy in a cute way. I wore my new necklace from Crashnoww at Seasons Story, a bargain with a texture change HUD for the gems in the necklace and pendant. A darling handbag from Natzuka Miliandrovic carries all my essentials (theoretically) and darling patent leather pumps fit for Slink or Maitreya from Saki Galiazzo that include a HUD that allows me to custom color three different sections of the pumps. They fit perfectly!

The Afternoon Knows

I am wearing one of Thora Charron’s new Swish hairs with an animated lock that moves as if a soft breeze is blowing. Mr. Beresford noticed it and thought it was done very nicely and naturally. (And you know, men don’t notice anything.) I have been experimenting with the GA:EG Adriana Mesh Head. It is Omega compatible, so I pulled out the applier Mallory Cowen created for the Logo mesh head as an Omega applier. I found that Mallory’s skin applied to this head beautifully and will please those who always loved the LAQ look. Then I pulled out the Add-Ons for the mesh head and installed them, which was lickety split. Wear the Add-on applier, click and it installs into the HUD. They have provided a variety of different add-ons including lashes, brows, liners, shadows and lipsticks. I used the lash applier, one of the eyeshadows and one of the lipsticks. Once installed they do come with options like translucency so I was able to make the pink lipstick more translucent so it blended with the LAQ skin nicely (since the lipstick is not quite the same shape as the skin lips).

~ “A Beautiful Exit” by Miguel

A Reason

I wandered over to the Embryo sim to see if I could take some pretty photos. I put together this beautiful ensemble starting with the gorgeous top and skirt that Vix Nirvana features at Shiny Shabby. I really love the textures on the skirt and I wanted to give in to the bohemian flavor without reducing its elegance, so I paired it with Senzati0n Domenitzo’s fabulous shoes for OMGacha.  I took a trip to Seasons Story to find jewelry and found Ors Quan had this darling necklace and a gacha of cool rings, so I indulged myself and dressed up.

A Reason

I wore Inka Mexicola’s newest applier for the LeLutka heads, which she is featuring at Kustom9. I really like the makeup options on the LeLutka head—I was able to tiny my lips and choose the translucency and my eyes. And you see a slight smile, which I chose from the expressions menu. My bountiful curls, pulled to one side, are Nita Bracken’s gorgeous contribution for Hairology. And somehow my hair managed to stay beautiful, even in the rain at Embryo.

~ “Lucille Has Messed My Mind Up” by Frank Zappa

Lucille

Lucille has messed my mind up, so I threw some stuff together for this look because it just all kind of looked funky. I started with Tatyana Ultsch’s look for the Mesh Body Addicts, a fit-to-the body tube dress that does indeed fit and comes with a HUD with a ton of colors. (I admit I wish she had added some textures.) Then I dug out Inex Hax’ fur sleeves from Shiny Shabby that can add a bit of funk to any outfit, transforming it to something completely different, especially with the texture-change HUD for the fur portion of the sleeves. I added Senzati0n Domenitzo’s thigh high, lace-up boots (so sexy from the back) from Seasons Story and Mea Carnell’s hybrid scarf necklace for On9. To add one more element, I pulled out Zaara Kohime’s feathered ear cuffs, adding that last bit of almost over-the-top drama.

Lucille

Boo Nakamura has made this fabulous bun for Hairology that does NOT need a hairbase so you are not left struggling to find a matching hairbase, and Boo is not tasked with creating a ton of different appliers for mesh heads. That’s why I could wear it with the Catwa Annie Mesh Head and use JourdanMcMillan’s skin applier from Shiny Shabby to create this look. I love the lips on this skin and she includes some terrific shadow choices for separate application.

Rolling Out the Red Carpet

Rolling Out the Red Carpet

That red carpet has to be felt to be believed. ~ Willam H. Macy

Rolling Out the Red Carpet

I decked myself in red for the red carpet today in honor of Harper Ganesvoort’s 7th Annual Oscar Fashion Photo Contest. Every year, Harper honors the Oscars by soliciting photos from around the grid and awarding prizes for the best photos. She is offering more than 50,000L in prizes this year (yeah) with 25,000L going to the first place and money prizes being awarded to the next six. That’s a lot of Oscar gold (and considerably generous for Harper)! The contest runs from January 8 to February 28, and all the details of the contest can be found here.

Rolling Out the Red Carpet

Needless to say, I will not be entering these “photos” into the contest, but I sure enjoyed Harper’s suggestion we “imagine ourselves on the red carpet at Dolby Theater.” (I am kind of of mixed feeling about combining avatars with RL photos, and I feel guilty as heck for erasing Jennifer Lawrence and Cate Blanchett to put myself in their place.) I thought it was a fabulous way to show off this latex dress from Sienia Trevellion, which is her exclusive at ROMP and is available in two colors. I accessorized with pumps from Glamistry, part of a promotion that I explained in my previous blog entry. I probably should have gotten a piece of jewelry in there too but I was too excited to get this announcement out to find something. Hint: Olaenka Chesnokov has a set of “Premiere” poses at her store.

Rolling Out the Red Carpet

I was also inspired by Tabata Jewell’s glamorous, almost vintage style for Hairology this round. With rolls on top and a sensuous lock coming to the front, it’s a sort of old-school glam with a rockabilly twist. Umazuma Metaluna’s newest skin for the LeLutka heads, available at Seasons Story, is dressed up with lipstick appliers Uma features in her store and eyeliner from LotusAmbrosa. I thought it looked fabulous on the Ever but will easily play as well on one of the other LeLutka heads.

Wasabi Pills for Hair Fair 2015

Hair, hair, everywhere!

Wasabi Pills at Hair Fair 2015

You would think I would run out of hair, but no, there is so much great hair from Hair Fair, it’s everywhere! MissAllSunday Lemon has contributed four darling looks with a portion of the sales kicking back to Wigs for Kids.

Wasabi Pills at Hair Fair 2015

MissAllSunday Lemon brought her top game to Hair Fair this year with four very different styles, making sure that a whole variety of hair style needs has been addressed, including a cute style that includes a great texture-change HUD for the headband. She even made darling ponytails!

Wasabi Pills at Hair Fair 2015

You get a peek of the beautiful print on a dress from bodytothestars that he has at Season’s Story. Love the print and the style. I matched one of Monicuzza Babenco’s wood bead necklaces from Oh My Gacha to the outfit. My favorite part of the whole look is, however, Steffi Villota’s gorgeous new skin on a LeLutka mesh head. I spent a lot of time trying on her appliers, which are all lovely and quite different from skin to skin in features (besides the skin tones), and I fell in love with this one and its sprinkling of freckles over the nose, even in the lips. She includes several lovely lipsticks and sexy eyeliners. The combo of this skin on this head is delectable.

She made it to Hair Fair!!

Elikatira at Hair Fair 2015

When I was just a twinkle in my virtual mother’s virtual eye, Elikapeka Tiramisu was paving the way for the hair designers of SL. I am not saying she invented SL hair—I am sure someone else did that—but she professionalized the creation of hair, made it beautiful and varied and set it on the path it’s on today. With her store, ETD, she propagated the free hair that made newbies feel virtually human and built the one of the first hair stores that looked like a high fashion boutique. (There were other mass hair producers but Elika’s was the most chic.) She was one of the first big ones in the grid, kids.

And she’s back at Hair Fair, showing some of the most darling styles you can grab, all with great texture-change HUDs for the hair and the accessories and all in her great hair colors in mesh. It’s great that she decided to come back on to the grid recently. She never fails to please with her styles and her kind presence is a welcome one.

Elikatira at Hair Fair 2015

I won’t continue to wax nostalgic without mentioning the other great pieces in my look, including Umazuma Metaluna’s winsome skin for Seasons Story with its full lips and beautiful eyes. Then I have this exquisite necklace from Mea Carnell for On9, a piece that is available in three metals. Mea has shown up in the jewelry world with some great mesh work and amazing designs, especially in metals. Poulet Koenkamp is presenting this dress at Fashiontropic, which includes a beautifully textured hem with large tropical flwoers, which I don’t show here. It’s an almost romantic piece with optional translucent sleeves and a sexy halter top.

It’s OPEN!

Clawtooth at Hair Fair 2015

Yes, Hair Fair has opened. The sims are beautifully built this year with stores in the bottom of salon bags, which makes total sense. A runway goes down the middle of each sim and you can OFF SIM shop on two more sims if you can’t get in! Do yourself and everyone else a favor, go without a lot of scripts, without a lot of fancy clothes, and DO NOT lecture others. Mind your own business and let the organizers manage issues.

Clawtooth at Hair Fair 2015

The best idea is to take your time shopping at home by grabbing demos from the Hair Fair Demo Group. Get a glass of wine or coffee or Rockstar or water and whatever your snack of choice. Then sort through the demos: rez, open, wear, click, read, view, decide. Make a list of your favorites and go to the Hair Fair, and take your time! It’s open through July 26. Spend to your heart’s delight as every hair purchase kicks a donation to Wigs for Kids.

Clawtooth at Hair Fair 2015

There are some kick ass styles available for sale, enough to fill your wardrobe for a good long time if you like to change it up. Bubbles Clawtooth brought her A game to the fair with these five styles, made of three base styles with variations. Like bangs on your updo? Get the Flutter. Prefer without? Get Fast Lane. Both come with an separate texture change hud for the scarf. She blew wind of different velocities through Strong Winds and Gentle Breeze. And Miss Needles is just a darling look, also with the separate texture change hud for the bow and scarf separately.

Clawtooth at Hair Fair 2015

My skin is Inka Mexicola’s newest, a delicate beautiful look so perfect for Bubbles’ styles. Inka is featuring this skin at Season’s Story. TheAnnex is featuring this custom-mesh dress at Season’s Story as well, which she has colored in water-washed hues. Maxi Gossamer is selling this gorgeous necklace at Collabor88.

The Best of What Might Be

The Best of What Might Be

“Summertime is always the best of what might be.” ~ Charles Bowden

The Best of What Might Be

Summertime brings so much light and happiness, which is good because it needs to hold me through the other parts of the year. I put on this little dress from Kim Lysette, who has opened her own store with her partner, Dean, and remembered what summer is all about. With separate texture change for both the top and the skirt, I can make up a variety of looks with this one dress and it’s available at a ridiculously low price. Kim has always had terrific textures and a great sense of style, so her new store is bound to have something for everyone. My look is accented with bangles from Monicuzza Babenco, one of many selections at Oh My Gacha, and my shoes are a charming look with diamond studded fish bones from Ashleey Andrew. I saw this handbag from ThePierrot at Origami and had to have it.

The Best of What Might Be

Aleida Rhode put out this skin at Anybody and it comes with every kind of applier imaginable. I have heard from several designers what a tedious bit of work it is doing appliers, so when you put on your mesh body, thank that creator in your head. I added to her lovely face with liner from Constance Daehlie and lipgloss from Soleil Reid. Shylah Honey is featuring this darling side-swept ponytail at Season’s Story when it opens. With strands coming loose, it’s a perfect idea of my summer: casual and fun.

Sweet Spring

Spring is here and though the air is still brisk, the sun is shining and crocuses are popping out and the grass is getting green! Everything in life is about change and spring is a heady reminder of that. I wore this lovely dress from Kiddo Oh, featured for a Ferosh spring fashion spread, to celebrate the season. With flounces and ribbon details, it’s almost like a piece of Regency-era fashion but with a lingerie twist. Kiddo does all her mesh herself as well as her textures, so you know you have a very original piece when you purchase. You can find this and other pieces from the collection in a special tent at the slurl I provide.

Sweet Spring

For the Spring version of Season’s Story, Shylah Diggs made this lovely hair with a flowered headband, which includes just a headband, the flowers  or just the hair. You get a HUD to change colors so you can match it up with what you’re wearing (as I did). My skin is Aleida Rhode’s newest, fresh and beautiful for spring with hand-drawn textures and a sophistication that many skins lack. Aleida includes appliers for what seems is every known mesh out there, so you can wear it with your mesh body, as I did with the Maitreya body.

Freedom

Freedom

“What is freedom of expression? Without the freedom to offend, it ceases to exist.” ~ Salman Rushdie

Freedom

I can’t help but think that in this time of the Internet, the most important issue we will face will be the freedom of expression. Being the megaconduit of discourse, the Internet amplifies ideas. It can carry messages of good and bad. We each have a role to making things flow peacefully and openly. Part of that is thinking critically and part of it is simply not reacting without thoughtfulness.

With the attacks on Charlie Hebdo recently, it’s easy to champion free speech as if all free speech is ok and acceptable. But before you yourself say something think, “Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?” Think about your reaction. As a magazine of satire, Charlie Hebdo occupied a certain space of being able to say what others can’t and also of being able to push at the edges of our ideas. Not everyone can do that skillfully and deftly, and it comes with risk. But that risk should not be death. It should be… irrelevance. That’s why when people say stupid things in SL, almost always I just walk away. By not reacting or listening, I make them irrelevant.

That being said, this is a fashion blog, though sometimes I use it as my mouthpiece. I want to mouth off a little about what I am wearing. First I got this cocktail dress from Ariadna Garrigus before the holiday and never got to show it, but lucky me it comes with a HUD that allows three textures so I wasn’t just stuck using the more glitzy patterns. This flowered dress is lovely for any party, daytime or night, and the dress has a lovely silhouette. I was able to match Maxi Gossamer’s lovely necklace for Uber with the colors of the dress and get bowed pumps by Darling Monday, also at Uber.

Freedom

I am wearing the Maitreya Lara body. I can see the appeal it has with a full apple bottom. I was not able to get the alphas to do much more for me with this dress than other mesh bodies have done—I still had to alter my shape. There are only so many pixels one can provide for cut out. Face it: you have to change your shape. Deal.

I wore the body because Voshie Paine made some terrific appliers for it. I love how the freckles from her skin run down to the body, making a very appealing girl. I added eyeshadow from Constance Daehlie, now at Anybody, to dress up. And I love Shylah Honey’s new hair for Season’s Story. This one is a keeper with tendrils slipping over the shoulder and the long hair flowing down the back.
