Heroes

Thanks to Kaseido, I am now on last.fm with my iTunes available for all the world to see. If you peek in, you might find me listening to David Bowie’s “Heroes” in Peter Gabriel’s voice (or any one of the other songs off his Gabriel’s new album, the playlist of which was directly lifted from my iTunes. Who the heck would have Bon Iver, Magnetic Fields and Elbow all in one place? I always knew I wanted to marry Peter Gabriel….)

Heroes

While I enjoyed what last.fm threw at me, I doodled around with this blog. I had to get it just right to honor this super groovy outfit from Aurelia Scarpulla. With her mix of photosourcing and drawing, she creates an outfit that is once glam (especially with the silver gloves) but also easy with little muss and fuss. My favorite part is the bejeweled shoulder pad with the sequined tassels. Glam all over! (I would also like to mention here Aurelia’s excellent customer service. A duplicate purchase for me, due to an itchy trigger finger, turned into a quick and pleasant refund after a notecard from me.) I highly encourage you to check this designer’s work.

Heroes

The skin is from Lion Jonesford, a somewhat older version that I bought in an extensive fatpack a month or two ago. (Yes, folks, I tried on 40 skins out of that pack before deciding this is what I want. How is that for dedication to you, my dear readers?) Lion is, hands down, the skin maker I visit when I want something more dramatic, with funky eye makeup or lips. She clearly revels in experimentation with makeups.

Heroes

The best silver texture on the grid can be found on Babette Ultsch’s boots and shoes. I struggled with how to end this outfit—I wanted just the right thing, and silver was it. These boots, with their stylish cuff and brilliant silver texture, end the outfit perfectly. (I really have to tell you all—get over there. Her toe shoes and boots are incredible.)

(What if you all find out I have Level 42 on my iTunes by looking at my last.fm? Will I die of embarrassment? Thanks so much, Kas!)

Shimmy Shimmy

I have two ideas in my head today based on today’s blog topic… well actually three.

1. I look damn hot and that’s because:

2. I am wearing work from old school designers and

3. I used the option on my boots to make them look different—this time red stripes and details.

Let me get into the old school first. Evidence number one: swafette Firefly’s sexy, shimmering martine cocktail dress. With its shimmery prims, highlighted with a texture that I swear has sequins sewn to it, this dress is about movement, about fun, about hopping on that poseball and dancing all night, showing your legs up to there and your moves out to there.

Shimmy Shimmy

swafette has been doing this stuff for years—her repertoire is extensive and her skills considerable. swafette was doing this stuff long before you kids had sculpties or flexi! She makes clothes for men and women, both genders equally well represented in her fashions. She knows what makes people in SL have fun and she’s built a business that has lasted. And she does it with enthusiasm and graciousness.

Shimmy Shimmy

Evidence number two: the boots from Bax Coen. The new Prestige boots from Bax are to die for—I showed the black ones a few days ago. These are the white.

Shimmy Shimmy

This is my rant—when creators like Bax think enough to put in features like changeable metal, color changing details, etc., why doesn’t anyone USE them? I have seen countless women running around SL with the chain still across the shoes, even though it looks silly, or the foot color in it’s original orange tan. Bax has made these boots with tons of features. Trying them out with different outfits is worth at least an evening’s activity—well worth the low price she charges.

Styled this with a tossed haircut from Kin Keiko and a sweet Altonia skin from Pulse. No need to be over made up when the red stands out already.

Cinderella for a Day

I am featuring another one of Shenlei Flesheart’s students at Shengri-La. Missy Lavecchia, like many women who enter SL, has fallen in love with the idea of dressing up in a full skirt with twinkling sequins and bows and all the pretty things girls really like, and she envisions this dream with Bella Fantastique.

Missy made this lovely evening gown—MS Midnight—for one of her classes with Shenlei. With it’s full skirt and sparkling detail, Missy captures the fantasy we all have of feeling oh so pretty. Missy ingeniously puts a sparkling overlay on the skirt with scalloped chains of sparkles. What is hard to show in the photo is how fluidly these layers move—it’s actually quite captivating. Missy repeats that sparkle motif along the decollatage and around the low cut back. Her seams are, as one would expect of one of Shen’s students, dead on. For a relative newbie (she first rezzed in March this year), Missy is taking SL by storm.

Cinderella

I styled this dress with a dramatic updo from Sky Everett Designs—the Sovereign, and I piled on the jewels to turn this dress from pretty to royal.

Cinderella

This ensemble is completed with Cinderella’s glass slippers from Melanie Zhao. Thank you, Melanie, for knowing every girl’s secret desire—a glass slipper to leave for her Prince Charming to find.

Sequined Sophistication

Sometimes when a lady goes out on the town, she needs to dress up a little and show off her success. For some ladies, that means a lot of bling, a lot of accessories. For me, it means a deadly sexy sheath–hand-sequined–and exotic stilettos.

Sophisticated Sequins

Squinternet Larnia seemed to know just what I needed. With her gorgeously embroidered system pieces, she made a dress that screams success and calls to me. Note how well the system pieces wrap around the avatar and the invisible transition from the top to the skirt. This is not “off the rack.” This was couture, elegant, elaborate, but not vulgar.

Sophisticated Sequins

I can’t emphasize enough how important a good system piece is to any outfit. All the prims in the world will not hide lack of skill or style. Squinternet shows both skill and style with this ensemble.

I included a pair of pumps I had purchased a time ago from SKG Shoes. I have already gone on about Saki Galiazzo’s work. The wicked but elegant shape of these shoes and the exotic but not overdone animal print complimented the ensemble.
