Rolling Out the Red Carpet

I decked myself in red for the red carpet today in honor of Harper Ganesvoort’s 7th Annual Oscar Fashion Photo Contest. Every year, Harper honors the Oscars by soliciting photos from around the grid and awarding prizes for the best photos. She is offering more than 50,000L in prizes this year (yeah) with 25,000L going to the first place and money prizes being awarded to the next six. That’s a lot of Oscar gold (and considerably generous for Harper)! The contest runs from January 8 to February 28, and all the details of the contest can be found here.

Needless to say, I will not be entering these “photos” into the contest, but I sure enjoyed Harper’s suggestion we “imagine ourselves on the red carpet at Dolby Theater.” (I am kind of of mixed feeling about combining avatars with RL photos, and I feel guilty as heck for erasing Jennifer Lawrence and Cate Blanchett to put myself in their place.) I thought it was a fabulous way to show off this latex dress from Sienia Trevellion, which is her exclusive at ROMP and is available in two colors. I accessorized with pumps from Glamistry, part of a promotion that I explained in my previous blog entry. I probably should have gotten a piece of jewelry in there too but I was too excited to get this announcement out to find something. Hint: Olaenka Chesnokov has a set of “Premiere” poses at her store.

I was also inspired by Tabata Jewell’s glamorous, almost vintage style for Hairology this round. With rolls on top and a sensuous lock coming to the front, it’s a sort of old-school glam with a rockabilly twist. Umazuma Metaluna’s newest skin for the LeLutka heads, available at Seasons Story, is dressed up with lipstick appliers Uma features in her store and eyeliner from LotusAmbrosa. I thought it looked fabulous on the Ever but will easily play as well on one of the other LeLutka heads.

This is one of those mega blogs where I have so much goodness I don’t know where to start. First is the great song from Lianne LeHavas, which has great meaning for me. Then all this yumminess from Shiny Shabby, starting with a darling dress from xxsaltandpepperxx, which includes a texture change HUD with some great floral and eensy polka dots in au courant colors and styles. Paired with floral-patterned sandals from Nardya Rousselot, it is a perfect summer look. I top it with Diaxm’s gorgeous pansy headband and wear a terrific contemporary ring set from Kathya Szczepanski.

I furnished my scene with various pieces from Shiny Shabby. First I started with Siena Trevellion’s gorgeous leaning door, an ideal piece for any eclectic space. I leaned FadeArcade’s great ladder light on one side and his shelf on the other, which I decorated with vases of flowers from Kean Kelly. Kunst Himmel, who has a love affair with wine, I think, because he makes the most beautiful wine-focused collections, including the ones from his gacha that you see here. A gorgeous rug from FadeArcade’s gacha anchors it all. My poses are a set from Anne Dakun that include a notebook prop that has a texture-change HUD to make the perfect accessory.

Focus on that necklace I am wearing. Maxi Gossamer has learned how to translate her SL mesh designs to RL 3D technology and is able to produce her jewelry in RL. I am wearing Maximillion Grant’s versatile Alex mesh head with the accompanying expression sets. It’s so fun clicking around and finding new expressions and looks. I used Aleida Rhode’s omega applier for her Kate II skin at the Dressing Room (at a ridiculously low price for such a comprehensively complete set of appliers). The skin applied perfectly to the head and made a gorgeous look. Thora Charron just released new hair, and I love how this casual look tucks behind the ear and swirls around the shoulders.

A blues song hardly seems to go with this outfit unless you consider how sultry it is when Madeleine Peyroux sings it. Her languid, melodic voice is perfect for this time of summer as is this gorgeous outfit from Sienia Trevellion when I was previewing District 5. (Yeah, I actually go SHOP and you can too because it opened today.) She is offering the top and skirt separately, rather than as an outfit, so you could have the option to purchase one or the other. I would recommend the skirt first. The top fits a little hinky but has a great texture, so how can one resist? (Note: Sienia IM’d later that she had worked on the rigging and reissued the top. I have tried it on and it’s much better!) I matched Maxi Gossamer’s new necklace for Collabor88 with the look and great bangles from Zaara Kohime, who still has some of THE BEST textures. Zozicon has made up special nails for District 5 with shooting stars!

My lovely long locks are one of Shylah Honey’s contributions to District 5. The hair comes with a great texture-change HUD so I went all the way with this ginger ombre to pick up the oranges in the outfit and accentuate the blues and greens.  My absolutely gorgeous makeup is one of Shyla Diggs’ pieces at Collabor88, one of her typically sensuous color combos. I added one of the matte lips to bring a touch more color to the lips but with such bold eyes, a little goes a long way.

The Outdoorsman

My brother, Peter, is an outdoorsman. He has a hard time being inside the house—says it makes him claustrophobic. You can generally find him outside puttering around, putting out salt licks for the deer or tinkering with the Gator (some ATV thing he’s gonna break his neck on) or chopping wood for Mom and Dad or checking his deer stand for the 20 millionth time. He’s a quiet guy but pretty restless. He says the air is clearer out there. The rest of us think winter stinks; he thinks it’s a fine opportunity to throw on a sweater and walk around outside.

I managed to catch him out in the back field, going to shovel some path for the bunnies or something. He has on his new favorite sweater, one he got from mappy Handrick, which is a great turtleneck normally, but he is wearing a scarf he picked up from Jon Ree, hiding the neck. His jeans are from mappy Hendrick too; plain and versatile, they have a nice blue tone that isn’t all washed and wussy. Boots are his trusty worn Somas from Eponymous Trenchmouth.

My brother is actually a handsome guy (he’s related to me, of course). His skin, from Maximillion Grant, gives him the manly look he needs. The thing is, Maximillion has been making men’s skins in SL for a long time so he knows what a guy needs. He even looks great in a dorky hat, this one from Sienia Trevellion. (“My hat is not dorky! It’s so macho you can’t even understand because you’re a girl,” he told me.)

I convinced him to take off his sweater (when I told him some of my girl friends actually read this blog). He wants to make sure you see his ripped abs from all the woodcutting. (He refuses to acknowledge that Maximillion has given him these abs.)
