Brick House

She’s a brick—-house
Mighty mighty, just lettin’ it all hang out
She’s a brick—-house
The lady’s stacked and that’s a fact,
ain’t holding nothing back.

Brick House

One of the fantasies of SL is being drop dead sexy. But what IS sexy. Some think it’s waif thin, some think it’s emo, some think it’s being model-like (tall, thin and strangely proportioned). Well I think it’s being “mighty mighty.” It’s easy to do in this amazingly-built corset from Khai Sinister. Between the sculpties on top and bottom (shaping the body) and the system pieces in the middle, this corset visually cinches the body in as a good corset should. I am particularly amazed at the details shown including the well-drawn buckles, the ribbon bows and the way the textures on the sculpties match seamlessly with the body. (I will note that I changed my shape for this. The sliders all got upped a bit.)

Brick House

I am wearing Tuli Asturias’ new skin for the Gina series from The Dressing Room, which completes this smokin’ look. Tuli has come upon a clever idea here—sell the collection one by one to keep them coming back. The skins are beautiful and such a great deal—how can you beat 65L for something that looks THIS good? In the end, if she releases 10 of them a whole fat pack will be only 650L! It’s a no-brainer—go get the skins!

Queen

Ever meet a woman with magnificence? It’s the only word I can think of—magnificence. She’s a queen. She’s strong, quiet, commanding.

Queen

I found the outfit for such a queen at Isaura Simon’s store. With her beautifully drawn textures (especially the gems wrapping around the torso and the motif gem piece), Isaura knows how to dress a powerful woman. Her garments say she owns this place. This ensemble comes complete with the staff which has a mini AO built in that includes poses such as the one you see above.

Queen

Isaura carefully constructs her skirts with tiered prims and a close-up look will show gems falling off the shoulder pads—an incredible touch. Her system pieces are clean—no ghosting and a very gently rendered drop shadow to give more depth to the piece. The bra and panties underneath include a brilliant sparkling texture. It all works.

Queen

I wear hair from Sky Everett. Sky has been quiet as of late—producing but not spending a lot of time in SL, it seems. We miss you Sky :( Isn’t this hair magnificent?

I forewent the shoes sold with the outfit to go with some wonderfully detailed shoes from Rosie Lavochkin. Not only did Rosie include the signs of the zodiac across the main strap, but she imprints the big toenail with a gem and builds a shoe that is sexily strappy. (Check out the swirly on the heel.) These shoes are for women who mean business.

Wicked Fishing

Another in a seeming series of black and wicked outfits. I am beginning to wonder if this is some sort of unconscious response to all the pretty mermaid outfits I did last week.

Wicked

This outfit, once featured as the outfit in the fishing pond at DV8 (I kid you not), is my choice of sin today. With its sweetheart neckline, sexy off-shoulder sweater and shorty short flirty flexi skirt, this is an outfit made for sin.. but only in the sweetest way. Let me remark here that Vasha Martinek has further expanded on this outfit by making several colors of the tank that goes with this. She has this entire outfit (29 pieces which include a number of tops, jeans, this skirt, and the boots) and several colors of the boots on sale as well.

Wicked

I show it with a skin from Syndel Daviau, who showed at the Fantasy Faire. (Yes, I thought I was done too, but clearly not, because Syndel deserved her day.) Worn on my usual shape, the nose on this shape shows itself a bit differently, so my facial structure seems very changed. I really like the eyebrows (and remember, I am an eyebrow freak), and the coloring of the eye shadows is hauntingly beautiful. Syndel also chooses a decolletage with what might be called “enhanced” breasts. Many women in SL like this look; it’s not my usual but it suits this outfit perfectly.

Wicked

Finally the boots, also made by Vasha Martinek and also once part of the fishing expedition at DV8. (When have you ever gone fishing and HOPED you would get the boot?) She is serving up 13 (!) additional colors of these boots and yes, they can be purchased separately.

Collecting Art

Lorac Farella IM’d me with the words I always like to hear from her—“Would you like to see some new skins?” Lorac, as has become apparent with this blog, is usually my skin maker of choice. I try other skins, but I always end up with Lorac’s because they “look like” Harper.

110209a_007full

One of my fantasies in this other life was to be an art collector; as a result I have an extensive collection of art on prims, but honestly, some of the best art I own comes in the form of fashion, skins, hair, etc. Lorac’s are, of my collection, some of the best of the best. They provide me the most aesthetic and personal enjoyment.

110209a_006back

Her new “Life” line has the hallmarks of a Lorac skin—the detailed and almost poignant eyes, the luscious drawn lips, the finely defined collarbones, the beautifully arched eyebrows (and I have to say, with skins, it’s *always* about the eyebrows for me), the deliciously drawn sensuous body. A woman in Lorac’s skin is a woman—not a girl, not a Barbie doll, not an anime cartoon. She is a full and entire woman.

Collecting Art

Unlike many bloggers, I choose not to do the omnibus approach to showing the skins—you can see that in the store. I chose one to wear, and I wore paeoti Pomeray’s sexy and fun lingerie with it so you can see the approach of two different artists—where Lorac is almost painterly, paeoti’s textures are smoother and more bright and contrasted. Yet the two look good together.

110209a_009face2

Then I top it all with another artist’s work—Sky Everett’s hair. I have said before Sky’s hair is fantasy hair—piled-high, full, extravagant and luxurious, her hair is the dream of beautiful women across the grid. One could never say Sky is parsimonious with her textures or prims—or her talents.

Paeoti Pomeray is BACK! I want to shout that from tops of the Linden trees! Paoeti is BACK!

Sheltered from the Storm

What do I mean by back? Did paeoti ever really leave? Not sure about that but for a while there, Nymphetamine was riding sky high. You wanted a beautiful, lush, sexy dress, you went to Nymphetamine. I remember meeting paeoti when I did my first article in SL. I was so excited to meet her and I prepared by visiting her impressive sim and store, viewing all the amazing content. She was so friendly and so generous, and her work was impressive. We remained friends. Then paeoti was quiet for a while. We didn’t see a lot of new content from her—she took a break.

Well, she’s back, helped by savvy Manager Stacy Maracas, and she’s still making amazing fashion. I chose to wear the new Tre’Lace Formal Dress for these photos because the textures are so beautiful and romantic and dark. Paeoti has ingeniously layered a lace layer over the satin skirt layer to provide a complex skirt construction that moves gloriously when you’re dancing or walking. Her underlying system piece work is, as always, impeccable.

Sheltered from the Storm

I wore a pale pale skin from Pulse to offset the beauty of the blackness. Lorac Farella’s hand drawn skins are an artistic and beautiful alternative to the photo-sourced or simplistic skins so prevalent nowadays. I am a huge fan of Lorac’s (as anyone reading this blog would know). I never altered my shape to wear her skins and from the first day I tried one on, they spoke to me. They were expressive in photographs and made my beauty unique.

I adorned the dress with jewelry from Tiffy Vella. Eclectica is one of the new up and comers in the jewelry world, as far as I am concerned. Her pieces are classy, dressy, and unique. These are not pieces you purchase at the mall—you would find them in a boutique or at an art dealer’s gallery.

Cinderella for a Day

I am featuring another one of Shenlei Flesheart’s students at Shengri-La. Missy Lavecchia, like many women who enter SL, has fallen in love with the idea of dressing up in a full skirt with twinkling sequins and bows and all the pretty things girls really like, and she envisions this dream with Bella Fantastique.

Missy made this lovely evening gown—MS Midnight—for one of her classes with Shenlei. With it’s full skirt and sparkling detail, Missy captures the fantasy we all have of feeling oh so pretty. Missy ingeniously puts a sparkling overlay on the skirt with scalloped chains of sparkles. What is hard to show in the photo is how fluidly these layers move—it’s actually quite captivating. Missy repeats that sparkle motif along the decollatage and around the low cut back. Her seams are, as one would expect of one of Shen’s students, dead on. For a relative newbie (she first rezzed in March this year), Missy is taking SL by storm.

Cinderella

I styled this dress with a dramatic updo from Sky Everett Designs—the Sovereign, and I piled on the jewels to turn this dress from pretty to royal.

Cinderella

This ensemble is completed with Cinderella’s glass slippers from Melanie Zhao. Thank you, Melanie, for knowing every girl’s secret desire—a glass slipper to leave for her Prince Charming to find.

Red Velvet

Winter Jefferson, blogging vampire and tireless organizer of Swansong, whispered in my ear the other night that he had seen the perfect gown for me. Winter doesn’t realize my inventory is FULL of the gowns “perfect for me”—about 450 of them. (Don’t ask…) But, still, hope springs eternal, so I went to check it out.

When I teleported into Black Swan, I saw what he saw. Redheads CAN wear red and THIS redhead loves to wear red. Tabitha Ninetails of the Dancing Academy has outdone herself with this elegant evening gown. From the cleverly constructed décolletage to the careful and beautiful rendering on the system pieces, I can feel the rich fabric lying on my skin, the open back and exposed shoulders caressed by the air, the heavy skirts swirling around my legs with each step. I feel elegant and regal. Winter was soooo right.

Red Velvet

Red Velvet

I have topped this ensemble with Sky Everett’s Reign in red and a cute pair of earrings Nonna Hedges just sent through that I imagine she has made in Maya. Little diamond-studded Eiffel Towers add a little something different to the ensemble. They aren’t your mother’s pearl studs.

Red Velvet

Maitreya’s elegant and sexy Verve pumps complete the outfit.

Princess for a Day

Sky Everett, in her usual manner, has given the Black Swan Swansong sale an incredible hair piece with Princess Liante. With it’s paradoxically ancient and futuristic shape, this will adorn women across the grid either as high fashion or as role-playing accoutrement.

A furniture designer and a home builder, Sky has lent her considerable texturing and prim building talents to making hair for ladies all over the grid. Sky makes hair like no one else—it’s big, it’s beautiful, it’s many women’s fantasy. Princess Liante comes with a gorgeous jeweled ponytail that snakes around to the front. With hair pulled up in back, it comes with or without facelights.

Princess for a day

Even better, it comes with a variety of jewels. You get a pair of beautiful earrings and two collars, one that faces backwards and one that faces forwards. You also get a set of jewels that can be worn on the back of the hair piece or on top as a crown.

Princess for a Day

The crown suits me….

Princess for a Day

I chose to show the hair with Mallu Mayo’s dress Etherna. This hair has to take center stage but it has to be accompanied by a simple classic dress. Mallu’s work is clean and well-constructed. As someone remarked when they saw me in this, “Not everyone can pull off an empire waist in SL. Looks great!”

I love AOHARU’s Suede Lace Up Sandals with this dress. I show them here without the dress so you can see up close that prim toes/feet don’t have to cost a lot and don’t need to have the fat ankle and mismatched skin.

A quick shout out to some friends who have helped or been helping me with this blog including Winter Jefferson of In Cold Blood, Raven Haalen of Raven’s Roost and his partner Isle Lunasea, and my two biggest critical advisors–fashion photog buddy Wilhelm and architect Stephen. (They don’t have blogs.. they do this stuff for real. So they are kind enough to fuss at my photos in-world while they are trying to relax.)

Thanks also to Saeya for hooking me up with that Photosphere! My own hollowed-out sphere was getting to be a drag.

And moo, I love ya, babe!
