Oh Brother–KittyCatS & Friends Advent Calendar, Day 16

This is my brother. Ok, in RL I don’t have a brother but in SL, I have someone who functions as one. Not in that sticky icky hearts and flowers in my profile way. More like that annoying IM me with foolishness and stupid names like “smeg” and “fart blossom.” The one who will trash me one minute and go after anyone who looks at me funny the next. There is, of course, constant bickering and arguments about who is to do what and when. Like shoveling.

Of course, my brother needs to be the one who has to go out to do the shoveling. It’s only fair. The pose set from Kay Weston for FROST is more ideally fitted to him (*cough* no one needs to tell him the shovel position can be modifed).  And of course I can sit by sipping my hot cocoa and watching and tell him where he’s missed a spot. It’s the natural order of things.

Of course, if he was a little misaimed in throwing the snow, it would hit me and get all over my new sweater, the gift Sanura Snowpaw made for the KittyCats & Friends Advent Calendar for yesterday. It includes a texture change HUD so you can wear this snowflake in several colors. My tights are stocking appliers from Ashton Tryce at FROST. They are awesome snowflake tights for any holiday outfit. My little boots are one of Chantal Mynx’s creation for FROST. My brother is wearing a horrible Krampus sweater from Parallax and a matching hat that he got on MP. (Because, you know, no reason to be cute and festive. Always have to bring things down, right?)

My brother is wearing today’s KittyCats & Friends Advent Calendar gift, a beard from ReishiProphet, available in two styles and several hair colors including a tintable beard. (I tried making it green but, yeah, don’t go there.) This is a tattoo layer and is a gift for MEN, who seem to get short shrift in the gift department in SL during the holidays. He is wearing it over the Emerson skin from ReishiProphet but it can be worn with any skin and look just as awesome.

I am sporting Lara Hurley’s lovely new skin with an included winter blush, which is just lovely. I love the brows, lips, eyes. Well I love it all and it’s fantastic on my system shape. Bubbles Clawtooth is featuring two hairs with texture-change hats at Collabor88 with winsome hair styles. Please note brother and sister have the same eyes from Constance Daehlile. We got them from our dad.

Special Occasion—KittyCatS & Friends Advent Calendar, Day 7

With all the snow-covered sims and sleighs and jingle bells, it’s hard to remember that a majority of the world does not celebrate a white Christmas, especially if you’re from the cold and wintery North as I am. Truth is, most enjoy their holiday with sunshine outside and the doors open or the AC on.

Somnia Snowpaw’s beautiful gift for the KittyCatS & Friends Advent Calendar is a reminder that some girls go to holiday parties in pretty dresses that are not velvet but cool cotton and in this case, open in the back. I love this dress template and Somnia has done something very special with it with this dress. Having a floral pattern on the skirt with a beautifully shaded top, it’s a gorgeous gift.

My shoes are Eudora 3D’s latest for Uber and a gorgeous pair with a texture change HUD with the lovely paisley pattern in black, brown or white on a texture-change HUD. It’s a perfect match for this lovely dress.

Hair Midair

Hair in the air is Kavar Cleanslate’s trick in trade. Windblown locks and beautiful textures, luscious thick voluminous waves, sexy, sensuous hair. Kavar was pretty much the first guy on the block to do mesh hair well and one of the first to have a texture-change HUD, and so he’s kind of the king of hair. He proves it once again with his pieces for Hair Fair this year.

Kavar knows that both men and women want sexy, and he’s offering three pieces for women and two for men (though I am showing the men’s pieces on myself because I tried to do them on my male avatar look and it was just a big icky mess).

Kavar’s hair always reminds me of sunshine and seashore. Windblown, bleachy blonde (though he has a full offering of many colors, the Stefani with a blonde streak always does it for me). It’s the hair of Baby Girls (not children) and Bunnies (not the rabbits) and is ideal for the sexy fantasy of SL.

Every year Kavar outdoes himself for Hair Fair, and this year is no exception. With his great HUD that provides a bazillion choices (ok, I exaggerate, but it sure is lot), gorgeous textures and beautifully constructed mesh, each piece is a winner.

This is going to be one of those mega blog entries where I share all the pretties I have picked up or been given. Start with this fabulous skybox from Tobias Corvair, which he is featuring at Fameshed. He calls it the “Architect’s Skybox” but I have figured out that it’s the gacha-player’s skybox with all its wall space and shelves. I hung the clever windowboxes from Barnesworth Anubis outside with his pansies and vines (which you can’t see) and took a shot through the window. Barnesworth makes the flowers super big so you can arrange and shrink them. A great tip is to LINK them when you have arranged to reduce the land impact.

Tobias gives the main floor a big space so you can enjoy a main living and social area. I arranged a more traditional chair from Hideki Carami’s gacha at Chapter Four (you get two chairs in the “prize”) with Cory Edo’s latest chairs for Collabor88. Cory’s chairs come in a handful of great decorating colors (lots of neutrals) and have a huge variety of poses and animations and, if you’re in the mood for love, delectable adult animations.

Tobias tucks little shelves under the staircases—the one up to the bedroom, which I made into a contemplative loft lounge—and then another up to a top-floor balcony. I put some of my yard sale gacha finds on the shelves, particularly my collection of art dummies from Robin Sojourner. (Yes, I do the gacha yard sales. Your trash is my treasure!) And he gives you an abundance of walls. I was able to hang my entire collection of LeeZu Baxter gacha posters around the skybox.

Tya Fallingbridge has a nice set of home accessories at FaMESHed including this modern lounge chair with footstool, side table and funky flower lamp. The chair includes several relaxing poses including this contemplative one, perfect for resting and listening to music after a long day.

I opted to make coffee the theme of the kitchen downstairs, using a darling graphic from Isabelle Requiem’s gacha at Oh My Gacha. She includes several kitchen and house décor items, including the rug beneath my feet. These little touches are what makes a house a home.

My outfit is an assemblage of pieces I liked together—first, the slouchy sweater from Sanura Snowpaw, a warm casual look for being at home. I paired it with Ivey Deschanel’s skirt from her ensembles at the Dressing Room Fusion. I am so glad to see Ivey working with mesh. Her textures have always been outstanding and at 70L, the skirt and top (which you don’t see here) are a steal with the quality she puts into them. My little boots are LeeZu Baxter’s mesh concoctions, wearable art on my feet rather than just on the walls.

Shyla Diggs has come out with a new skin for Collabor88, and I wear it with pleasure, opting for a pale lip to match the smoky eye, which accents a pair of eyes from Umazuma Petaluna’s gacha at Chapter Four. Fortunately, I lucked into these blue beauties though looking at her prize board, they are are all gorgeous. Amberly Boccacio is offering several colors of this funky necklace at Collabor88—it comes with silver or gold metal. And Circe Ishtari has made a long short cut with winsome wisps and a color change menu in the hair itself—click for colors and relax.

Cat People

Callie invited me to blog the KittyCats Advent Calendar and I gladly accepted though.. well, I am not a cat person entirely. I like cats. We coexist nicely. But I am not enamored of them the way some people are. There are, of course, the “cat ladies,” who are the extreme. But there are also kitty girls, who just like to snuggle their kitties and once in a while dress them up. There are cat women who enjoy the independence of their cats. And then there are the cat men, a particularly charming subset, who expend their nurturing energy on their cats. I know a few of those, all of them tender and kind to a fault.

So I have to be honest, you generally would not be catching me wearing a sweater like this one from Sanura Snowpaw (note the name) except it is one of the generous gifts in the KittyCats Advent Calendar (which she gives away in several colors). Once I put it on, I realized how cozy it is, how it keeps me warm during this very cold winter, and how it has its own delight with a goofy kitty on the front. Worn with cat-patterned wellies from Moonbubble Gothly, it’s a fun and funky outfit.

Aida Ewing has come out with a new skin set that I will undoubtedly be showing more often. The Kaelyn set seems to fit my shape better—I wonder if Aida is making to the avatar shape for whom the skin is named. The Mokatana definitely didn’t look as good on me—I have a face shape more like Kaelyn’s—especially in the mouth. Ms. Queue Marlowe has come out with two new styles that are, as usual, delicious and fun. This topknot is SO Queue.

Finally, today’s giftie in the Advent Calendar is a royal throne for your favorite KittyCat made lovingly by Carlotta Ceawlin. The seat opens so if you want to dump the cat in, it’s possible. (Oops, did I just say that?)

The Residents

My friend, Tutsy Navarathna, recently released a new machinima that posed a really interesting question. What happens when someone from “outside” comes to our world? What do they see?

In this case, two aliens end up in our world, trying to understand the humans they see. But the machinima has a brilliant SL twist. I won’t say much more except I will encourage you to watch the whole thing. (At just over 10 minutes long, it’s a lot of content, very beautifully assembled, and it has an actual story of interest, which beats most machinima I have seen. Besides the beautiful imagery, showing some of the best sims of SL, the story is interesting and humorous.)

I was inspired by the many “humans” Tutsy’s aliens encountered to make a human of my own in the same spirit. She is casual and otherworldly. First I start with a cute knit top from Sanura Snowpaw in a chic black and white stripe, off the shoulder mesh. Then I add Paul Lapointe and Bastchild Lotus’ boot flared jeans with their brilliant texture change HUD. (The jeans come in a bazillion colors but I chose black to make this look.) Finally I end up with Pixieplumb Flanagan’s funky boots that also include a texture-change HUD—and I chose zebra print.

Of course, Aida Ewing’s recent release of fairy skins inspired me in this blakc and white look. With beautifully rendered grays, the skin makes my “human” aetherial. A pair of intense gift eyes from Silverr Andel (part of a very generous set put out for the Peace on Earth hunt) creates her spark of life. And Kavar Cleanslate’s wild ponytails, using one of his crazier texture sets, makes my girl a combination of casual and unusual—a perfect “resident” for our aliens to observe.

Finally, I share a tableau of residents, some of whom the aliens might encounter, in a typical scene in front of a holiday fireplace, generously provided by Misa for the KittyCats Advent Calendar for yesterday. She includes sitting rugs for “humanoids,” “dinkies” and “tinies.” I got Maxxi Toxx in his tiny avatar to come over and lie in front of the fire on the tiny rug to demonstrate. (You have to see the machinima to “get” the photo—it will all make sense.)

How can you not think these are the best times of our lives.. well our second lives. We have mesh, we have new rendering, we have a plethora of great content creators. C’mon, folks. Enjoy it! I put together an outfit with mixed textures today to compliment my furniture feature. An older shrug from Cerberus Noel (quality always looks good) keeps my shoulders warm over this top from Isabelle Requiem, which she is offering at She & Him. I tucked little shorts from Sanura Snowpaw underneath and work butterfly garter socks from Nena Janus. Group gift boots from Jaimy Hancroft complete this look (with clocks etched in the leather if you look closely).

My whole exercise in showing so many prints and colors in the outfit was to compliment the fabulous new furniture set from Cory Edo, which she is offering at FaMESHed this month. It’s no secret I am a *huge* fan of Cory, not only her work, which is artistic, well made, and top notch but also her attitude, which is practical, cheerful and intelligent. She loves mesha nd it loves her. I love how this latest set revels in patterns and colors, allowing the owner to mix them and match them with texture change scripts in the furniture and enough poses to make any virtual interior decorator happy.

My blushing beautiful skin is one of Peachiemuah’s newest releases for her Fresh Face line. With darkly lined eyes and full sensuous lip, this is a bit more mature look for her skins and quite welcome. My updo is one of Truth Hawk’s newest and so much easier to wear now he has a texture change hud. Audrey Lamede is generously offering these eyes and another pair as a gift in her store—no group needed but you should join to see her marvelous releases. And Maxi Gossamer’s acorn necklace and ring add a touch of fall to my look.

My friends ALL know that earlier this summer I got a new bike. People are sick to death of hearing about my biking, my trips, the trail near my house, the hazards of my town, the challenges of packing that blue basket with two cantaloupe, a carton of soy milk, a bundle of carrots, hamburger buns and three cans of tomato paste. They have heard repeatedly the story of my friend’s husband, a Federal judge, giving me crap about not having headlights on the bike for night riding. (I said, “Yes, Sir. I will get them tomorrow, Sir.” And I did!) And he never said a word about the half-drunk bottle of sangria in the basket. Go figure. They are tired of hearing about how I bike to the beer garden in the local park to get a Munich pretzel—no beer or mustard, thanks—to bring home to my kid.

My new bike is a coral Townie from Electra with a removable blue basket, just like the one this darling girl shows in her blog, dutchie love. (No, that’s not me. I am not nearly that cute, young or good at photography.) This is the reason I have not been blogging as much this summer:

I tried to replicate the joy of my bike in photos for this blog. I sort of did it. First of all, for biking, you never need to dress up: t-shirt, capris, tennies. I got my shirt from Sanura Snowpaw, who shows a keen sense of humor in the comic book expressions she put on crop tanks. THAWP! I paired it with some cute sweatpant capris from Dalriada Delwood and tennies from Kehl Razor.  My bike prop from Winter Thorn includes a wicker basket (and a bottle of white sangria). I have been known to haul flowers in my RL basket and once almost had a french bread fall out. The prop is true to form!

Aida Ewing’s gacha skin for the Arcade suits this look with its minimal makeup and glowing blush.  My side swept long hair from MissAllSunday Lemon is an easy-going hair for riding a bike, having a picnic or shopping at the farmer’s market that she is featuring at FaMESHed.

Bikes suffice they’re so nice like priceless
