Peanut Blossoms

I have officially run out of titles and quotes today so you are being subjected to my topic of interest at the moment: Christmas cookies. Yes, I am starting now but this will be a banner year for cookie baking and I have made room in my freezer and purchased many pounds of butter and chocolate for the festivities. Then I give the cookies as gifts to teachers, relatives and friends here and afar. For example, Barely Texan nearly got down on his knobby knees earlier this year to beg me to send him a batch again. And Callie hinted around several times. For the Celebrity Auction for MadPea, benefitting Live & Learn in Kenya, I offered to send Christmas cookies as part of the prize, if the winner takes me up on it, he will receive a few of the said peanut blossoms as well several other cookies (which will title blogs in the future).

I also want to point out that this blog has been nominated as “Favorite Fashion Blog” in the Avi-Choice awards, which is quite an honor to me and my fellow bloggers who sometimes contribute to this blog. There are SO MANY fashion blogs for SL, so this is truly an honor, especially to be in a group of such distinguished bloggers. That being said, a quick trip to the grocery store to get hazelnuts, raspberry jam, dulce de leche, and several pounds of chocolate was in order, so I put on this hot little dress from Spooky Mistwallow (that includes a great texture change HUD with ten choices), struggled into tights from Alaska Metropolitan, threw on my scarf from Izzie Button from Gen Neutral, and grabbed my purse from Snow Martiel and ran out the door in my highly practical and sexy high heeled boots from Senzati0n Domenitzo. Yes, I always dress like this when I go cookie ingredient shopping—don’t you?

Umazuma Metaluma is offering a seasonal blush for cheeks and nose at Tres Chic, so I employed the blush layer over Nicole Button’s latest conversion to the Catwa head. I also used Nicole’s great eye makeups though I struggled with the lipsticks—they just didn’t conform to the lips the way I had hoped, even when I dialed them down. I also had to keep reapplying the blush as the lips overrode that. Not sure if it was a problem with the head’s HUD, the head or the makeup HUD.

Last, I want to give a big plus to the hair I am wearing which includes ANIMATION just like my face. Other people have tried this in the past but Thora Charron has finally made it work with mesh that seems to move in the breeze. I tried to capture an animation (and will attempt again on a future blog), but the side tendrils and the ponytail sway as if a gentle breeze is blowing on me. It’s pretty fabulous!

There’s something to be said for the life of SL, the shopping. So many great events are open right now, especially the spectacular Fantasy Faire (which I haven’t gotten a chance to see), the Black Fashion Fair, Shiny Shabby, 100 Block and many other events. I admit, sometimes it’s just about the shopping for me. I am glad to have SL.

Mixing it all up is even more fun. Start with this top from Spooky Mistwallow that includes a texture-change HUD with different combinations that allow for top and belt looks. Then find this great balloon skirt from Moonbubble Gothly that she has at the Black Fashion Fair that includes several different black-based textures like plaid, polka dots, hearts, baroque. I just love this skirt and the choices. Senzati0n Domenitzo’s great heels for 100 Block have a HUD that allows several color choices. Zig-zag straps make these shoes sexy and fun.

Monicuzza Babenco recently released the Yvonne applier set for the LeLutka mesh heads. Monicuzza offers a HUD as you see below, and she gives you great instructions right on the HUD about how to use the makeups. I definitely toyed with the saturation of the makeups and the glosses on the LeLutka HUD to achieve this look. For example, my lips are the deep dark purple lips on the lower right hand corner of the lipsticks.

My great waves come from MissAllSunday Lemon for Uber. With extravagant corkscrew curls and a side part, the hair is bodacious and beautiful.

The Apoplectic Post Apocalypse

“I’m a fuel-injected suicide machine! I am a rocker, I am a roller, I am an out-of-controller!” ~ Nightrider in “Max Max”

Genre’s theme this month is post apocalyptic, so I threw together a look from all the great stuff offered that is fierce and sexy, hoping I could share with you a little post apocalyptic style. Top to bottom, items that are from Genre: wild red hair from Cruella Pennell, who includes two different shaved heads that are tintable if you need to go wild. Then there is a “tiara” from Photos Nikolaidis that I tinted myself to match more with my outfit. A little necklace from Plurabelle Laszlo, a remake of a great bottlecap necklace she had done years ago (I know because it was my first happiness from Bliensen + Maitai). My bracer from Discovering Destiny includes vials of.. something and the ever-important key.

I rezzed the trailer from Jack Mondegreen and somehow my photo platform transformed itself into the Wastelands and bizarre characters of dubious provenance wandered across my scene. Soon I was engaging in chase scenes and various other feats of survival, using poses from Nancoix Urquan. Boots from Keishi Roo, of course, give me the edge and  the skirt from Spooky Mistwallow (yes, tough girls can wear skirts, especially when they wield a nail studded baseball bat from Draconias Timeless). All of the above is from Genre. Capture was in order with a great pose set from Kirsty Oherlihy (not available at Genre but essential to this narrative). I gave Z a run for his money!

I am wearing Paul Lapointe and Bastchild Lotus’ new corset, which includes a great texture change HUD with a ton of color options for the leather and the metal studs. Clicking this look in took a bit of time because I had so many choices! Paul makes a variety of sizes of mesh to suit your body proportions. If you prefer to be a bit more busty, he gives you that option. Any piece from L&B is chock full of options and is made of 100% original and well-rigged mesh. I can’t speak highly enough of their work.

I want to point out I am wearing the mesh Venus body from Belleza. I have done a few things with it to complete my look. I clicked on the push up breasts to fill in that corset, and I reduced my shape size. I still can’t understand why folks resist messing around with their shape a little to get the look they want to achieve with their mesh body. This is the fitted mesh we all wanted for so long! Let’s use it! I reduced my breast size slightly to fit the higher boobs from the shape into this corset and voila!

I have been reading Katherine Boo’s book about a “slum” in Mumbai, which is on the edge of the airport behind an ad for ceramic floor tiles, advertised as “Beautiful Forever.” It’s an amazing book, both in the writer’s understanding of the many influences on one group of people in a small community in a very large and diverse city in an even larger diverse country. It won the National Book Award for good reason. It’s an enjoyable read if nothing else. She writes fabulously.

We tend to have a very monolithic view of India in SL (and I speak of “India” not as a country as it is now but as that region, which could include Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka). My Indian friends in SL, the ones who live in India or abroad, seem to have no qualms about this, possibly because India is just too damn big to wrap their heads around much less expecting anyone else to. Whether you speak Marathi or Tamil or Bengali or Urdu or English, whether you eschew eating cows or pork or believe in many Gods or One or a Holy Trinity, you can be Indian.

So I gathered all these items from this month’s Genre, which is themed “South Asian,” and assembled them in a celebration of this amorphous beautiful place that spreads itself not only over South Asia but throughout the world. (My son’s Urdu-speaking preschool teacher grew up in Uganda, for example. My Hindu-speaking friends spent their childhoods in Singapore.) First, Hadarah Steamer’s beautifully textured set in mesh with glorious patterns and colors and jewelry and even a bindi! Add Plurabelle Laszlo’s slip on wedges and a nose ring from Photos Nikolaidis and the outfit is complete.

Lumiya Rae has made a sublime skin for this round with luscious chili-spiced lips and beautifully defined brows. I added Constance Daehlie’s gorgeous eye makeup, also available at Genre. My lovely wavy locks are MissAllSunday Lemon’s hair for Fameshed, which worked perfectly with the head scarf from Hadarah’s set.

Genre is all about entire immersion, so gorgeous furniture from Spooky Mistwallow and a scattering of pillows with poses and rugs from Cherelle Capra completes the South Asian theme. Namaste.

Love in the Time of Cholera

I’ve been holding on to this quote for a bit for a look that makes me fall in love, and this one did. It’s the colors of the dress from Spooky Mistwallow, and the style. Spooky includes a HUD that allows switches between 6 colors on the dress and 6 on the skirt, all complimentary for the palette you choose, and I loe this brown set. The style of the dress is flirty and soft and sophisticated, especially belted at the waist.

Well maybe it’s the shoes really that I really love. Strappy and sexy, they are one of two pairs that Eku Zhong is selling for 21 Shoe, and they are ONLY ON SALE TODAY, the 21st, so do not delay in getting them. Eku is a quiet one, making her sexy shoes and softly putting them out for shoe warriors to snatch up and sex up the grid.

It’s the skin. That is key here. Umazuma Metaluna has outdone herself on this one. The tone of the skin, the freckles, the features, the beautiful full lips, groomed eyebrows, gentle blush. I gasped when I saw myself. This may not be a look for everyone. It’s certainly not your typical dolly face. Uma has imbued this face with character and beauty.

It might be the eyes. I have been showing a lot of Constance Daehlie’s eyes and makeup and I am completely in love with these dark brown peepers. It’s hard to do a brown eye right, and she pulls it off by giving light to the eyes.

Then perhaps it’s the hair. I loved this short cut from Miu Edman when it premiered at Hair Fair and ran to get the brown for this ensemble. I personally LOVE short hair on women and wish I could pull it off myself. It’s a great style to show off these ginormous earrings from Donatela Couturier.

A Case of You

Been having a few of those days lately where I just want to go home, sink into a chair, and have a glass of wine while I listen to my favorite music and relax. I feel like I am behind on a few tasks, least of which is showing this fabulous furniture, which I set up a while ago to photo. First there is this fabulous retro living room set from Froukje Hoorenbeek that includes all her fabulous animations, from purely sitting and enjoy a glass of wine to actually enjoying some time with a favorite sweetheart, smooching or more. Who knew such innocuous furniture could hold such hot thoughts?

Of course if I flop down on this great massage table from Tya Fallingbridge, someone may come along and give me a massage. Or not. But it sure looks beautiful and tempting in the corner of my bedroom with separate tables of towels and massage oils. This is still at Fameshed for a few more seconds so grab it while you can.

Tya has also made this absolutely stunning bed that includes singles and couples poses and some adult surprises. With carved tropical wood and a sheer curtain across the top, it’s a gorgeous bedroom set that she had at Liaison Collaborative and now has in her store. I put wall hangings from Trace Osterham on each side and hung a darling little mobile/lamp from Plethora in the corner.

My lovely dress, which I also wore for my video with Phobos, is one of Spooky Mistwallow’s lovely interpretations for this mesh dress. I particularly have loved her patterns, which are proportioned nicely on the dress. My new peeptoe pumps are Eudora3D’s newest and come with matching bracelets, sold separately.

Finally I have to brag about this gorgeous skin from Mochi Milena, which she has set up as a free piece for newbies and a very low price for the rest of us mortals. If anyone worries that newbies can’t get good content, they should pull them over to Mochi’s shop to grab this skin. It’s absolutely gorgeous (and ridiculously generous). My hair is lovely braided updo from Mariru Catnap that I grabbed from Fi*Friday before Hair Fair and promptly forgot about, which was a shame because it’s absolutely lovely.

Walk on Air Hair

I call this “Walk on Air” hair because I always find Wasabi Pills’ mesh hair so delightful. MissAllSunday Lemon was one of the first hair makers to work with mesh, and it shows. Her pieces are well-developed with gorgeous textures and she can jump genres from fantasy to casual in a snap.

MissAllSunday’s specialty is the braid, and she uses it liberally in her pieces for Hair Fair. Braided bangs in a winsome face-framing curly ‘do, pigtail braids, and a thick braid pulled to the front, MissAllSunday shows off her mesh skills, even throwing in a windblown look.

An Irrevocable Condition

Tobias Convair believes in home and he knows his stuff. His latest release, the Pinewood Cottage, which he is selling at FaMESHed at a rock bottom price, is his American interpretation of home, an arts and crafts style bungalow which would find a safe place in many neighborhoods around the U.S. With a cozy floorplan that allows for small furniture groupings and an intimate upstairs space with room for a bedroom with fireplace, master bath and office, it’s a sort of archetype of the American dream and where else but SL would one best indulge that dream?

I located the house on my parcel overlooking the Linden seas with a late afternoon light falling in the windows to match the shadows and sunlight Tobias baked in and furnished it with pieces I have collected and new furnishings out for sale right now.

Start with the casual room to the side. With flowing curtains from Isabeau Baragula that I used throughout the house, I put down Tya Fallingbridge’s darling rattan collection for FaMESHed, which would be great in a room like this or the kind of outdoor living room that is so popular here right now. With beautifully coordinated textiles, pillows and blankets, the set has a versatility with several sitting poses per chair.

The casual dining room is furnished with Cherelle Capra’s blue and light wood furnishings that she sold at the Monochromatic Fair but which are now in her main store. Coordinated with several funky accessories (the retro clock and hanging lights), the set brightens up the house, giving a casual homey feel to the kitchen.

Cory Edo has made this formal dining room set for FaMESHed, which I have accessorized with Sway Dench’s gorgeous Moroccan carved screen and one of Tya Fallingbridge’s curved chandeliers. Cory provides the full compliment for a beautiful dining room including captains chairs with several texture change options, dining chairs, a gorgeously designed arts and crafts influenced table and separate dining pieces including place settings with color change scripts. A set of candles from Spooky Mistwallow’s RP store creates an elegant ambience to the scene.

I found pieces with an East Asian influence from Kaerri Rae in my inventory to place in front of the cozy fireplace that Tobias has included with the house. Tobias’ fireplace set, sold separately at his store, fills the hearth with a warm glow while a floor cushion recently purchased from Wendy Xeno provides a space for singles or couples to cozy up by the fire.

In my own home in SL there is no reason to dress up or flounce around in ball gowns. I chose separates from Paul Lapointe and Bastchild Lotus so I could color change to make a harmonious combination and accessorized with Maxi Gossamer’s latest offerings at FaMESHed. My lovely skin is Umazuma Metaluna’s newest piece, a lovely Asian skin with freckles sprinkled across the nose and a high ponytail from Circe Ishtari, drawn up with a scrunchie, completes my look.

The theme of Genre this month is “Mer-folk,” so clearly a shot over Linden water is in order. I wore Chandra Meehan’s gorgeous mermaid tail as part of my look. With a mesh center piece and gorgeous tails that combine mesh and flexi and translucency, this mermaid tail is spectacular. The tail comes in several colors—not just this lovely electric blue. My trident is also on sale at Genre in three colors to accessorize a mermaid or merman thanks to Tala Laval. Horns on my head from Draconius Timeless make my mermaid a watery creature rather than just a lovely woman. They come with a great scaly headbase and would suit both men and women.

The life of a mermaid is no doubt stressful, and Spooky Mistwallow knows every girl deserves a Calgon moment, so she made this darling tentacled bath for Genre. With effervescent bubbles that emerge from the tub and an animated foam, the tub is a place where a mermaid can relax and bathe or, feel frisky, bring her merman in for some intimate moments as the bath includes both single and couple poses. It even comes with a darling tentacle towel holder.

My glorious skin is Tuli Asturias’ new release for Skin Fair 2014. As usual, she givse us her shapely nose, beautiful lips and brows, and soft blush. Tuli’s face is exquisite, though I am biased—I was always a Tuli girl. Her skin comes in three tones with appliers sold separately. I have dressed the skin up with a makeup from Constance Daehlie that includes little fins to beautify the look and deep murky eyes from Cruella Pennell make my mermaid watery. My necklace, which could be seen as an octopus or alternately as Chthulu, I suppose, holds a brilliant egg. Tiffy Vella is really mastering mesh! All are available at Genre. Finally, I chose a recent hair from Queue Marlowe with her brilliant ombre coloring to top my mermaid off.

Fierce Female

Fierce women do exist. In fact, they outnumber the fierce men! Spooky Mistwallow just came out with this dress for her RP line, Mirage, and I put it on and felt my woman warrior emerge. Yeah, I know a warrior needs to be shielded and covered but this one is so lithe and fast she can fly through the air and get out without damage. The textures on the dress are so lush, especially the gold embroidery at the hem and bodice and the shape is sexy and my girl can be sexy and strong all at once.

Knee-high tie-up gladiator heels from Harry Hyx make the look even fiercer and sexier especially with serpent arm bracelets from Sissy Pessoa. I ran to the I Love Role Play gachas get gorgeous eyes from Filomena Quinnell and a raid horn from Thord Karu. I lucked out on my first try with both! And yes, fierce women can wear nail polish on their fingernails and toes—this one of Zozicon’s latest with beautiful spring textures and colors from the Pre-Release Gacha Garden.

My skin is PeachieMuah’s latest for her doll series. I can imagine this skin could be a perfect doll-like skin on a different shape but on mine it turns out to be a little more sophisticated, despite the dimples. I love the liner around the eyes and their shape with well-groomed brows and a slight blush. My hair is a two-piece mesh beauty from Morphine Janick. I love the blonde texture and having it in two pieces allows the option to not wear the braid and just have the wind blown look.
