I went over to the West of the Rain for a cool summer day scene with poses from Katya Valeska for Shiny Shabby. I started with a new top from Doc Eldritch that includes some fabulous colors and a beautiful texture. Doc makes all his mesh from scratch and custom fits it to mesh bodies so it’s perfect every time. I paired it with shorts I got from Kinu Mayako at Thrift Shop that includes a HUD to allow different parts of the shorts to be switched out. Criss-crossed platforms from Darling Monday’s sale make this a sexy casual look.

A trip to Shiny Shabby will also make you a cool girl. Start with Umazuma Metaluna’s gorgeous skin from Shiny Shabby, an applier for Catwa heads, which I am showing on the Destiny head. With gorgeous eyes from Lilanachristina and a unique necklace set from Aikeo Reiko for Shiny Shabby, the look is fabulous. I love the smooth long look from Vivienmarli for Shiny Shabby as well, a simple and easy ‘do for a casual freedom.

Valentine’s Day is coming up so a long of roses are going to be gifted through Marketplace in the next couple weeks.I am wearing an outfit from Ariadna Garrigus that’s a taste of sexy for strolling the grid. With mesh jeans, a draped silky tank and a nicely shaped jacket on top, it’s a great look for going out or shopping. I wore Senzati0n Domenitzo’s boots for Shiny Shabby with it and Maxi Gossamer’s new heart-filled pearl choker for Fameshed. It has color change for both black and white.

Not everyone on the grid is sold on mesh heads yet, and this skin is a beautiful look for a Valentine. This time she has blond brows, so I am able to wear one of Queue Marlowe’s gorgeous new lush looks with abundant curls.

Mexican Chocolate Butter Cookies

To cram big chocolate flavor into a tender, crisp chocolate butter cookie recipe, we found that cocoa powder—with a much higher percentage of cocoa solids than other forms of chocolate—was clearly the best candidate. ~ Cooks Illustrated

Today’s cookie (which turned out excellently) is the Mexican Chocolate Sugar Cookie. Forget the sugar—it’s all chocolate, dark dark chocolate (thanks to Dutch process cocoa and instant espresso), with an eensy touch of cayenne pepper to give it a little afterbite. This is not your Grandma’s Christmas cookie. I thought the idea of the cayenne pepper touched cookie went well with this outfit, which includes a darling integrated shawl and top from AscendSL and a great set of leggings from Rucy Byron with feet shaped to fit Slink or Maitreya shoes and a texture-change HUD for three different neutral shades. I picked up a pair of boots made by InfinityStore that includes a texture-change HUD for the socks and the hardware and a scarf from xMike Deed from Thrift Shop at half off to complete my look.

Avenge is a new skin line made by AvengeStore, and she includes appliers for Slink hands and feet and Maitreya and Belleza bodies and tells me she will be working on Catwa and Logo head appliers very soon. The body is nicely detailed and the face is quite pretty with several makeup options available. She’s still getting things together but for a unique look that many won’t have, you might check her store. Bubbles Clawtooth features this wavy and wild hair at N21 with some great ombre textures she has made. The barrette includes its own color change HUD.

I’m going the graphic route today with more photos than words because I wanted to feature a few of the great hairs from this month’s Hairology, and I knew I wouldn’t get to all of them otherwise. I have donned Paradox Messmer’s mesh dress from Thrift Shop, half off, in its various colorways and have clicked away at Maxi Gossamer’s great Collabor88 necklace to show the many colors you can use on this one piece of jewelry.

I love the variety of hair at Hairology, from Nita Bracken’s simple style to Casandra Rain’s gorgeous wedge (check out the back—brilliant) and I employed color on Tabata Jewell’s rock n roll style and on Elikapeka Tiramisu’s great side ponytail. An elegant girl will go with Evadne Quintessa’s look—it’s honest and easy.

I was plowing along with blogs and then boom, hit some sort of wall. Trying to get my mojo back. The new leggings Erratic Rain has at Collabor88 does a little something for me with the tons of colors and the perfect fit. I like the ribbing on these leggings—warm for the coming winter but versatile with other tops. I chose Sash Arabello’s tank from the recently closed (?) Dressing Room Fusion. High platforms from Celena Galli, which she offers as an exclusive at Thrift Shop, are half off for the event and come with a great texture-change HUD for various parts of the shoes. I chose to wear Mea Carnell’s beautiful fantasy jewelry with this look to dress it up a bit.

Monicuzza Babenco has issued a collection of skins on one HUD for the Catwa mesh head that are absolutely gorgeous and evocative, showing the progression of a beautiful woman through youth to adulthood and maturity. The look is gorgeous at any age. I love the character and beauty of this skin on the head—making it so I don’t see the mesh head anymore but the visage of a woman with character. Quite a feat! Mina Nakamura is joining in the fun at Hairology with this simple look, a versatile hair for many ages.

I giggled when I went to 6 Republic for this round with Chicago vs. California. There really is no competition. California is way warmer. Ever see a winter in the Windy City? It’s no fun—the night dropping suddenly like death, piles of lake effect snow, and yes, wind. However, Chicago has the most beautiful architecture, orderly streets and beautiful neighborhoods, masses of unpretentious diverse hard-working Midwestern people who wear boots in the winter so they can get around, and a thrum and noise that rumbles overhead from the El. (BTW, 6 Republic organizers, remove the “Subway” sign. There is no such thing there. It’s called the “El” and it’s elevated.) When I first heard the cozy music of Andrew Bird’s “Pulaski at Night” a couple years ago, I thought, yes that is exactly what Chicago is.

Piraiyah Novikov got a flavor of Chicago with his Art Deco pieces for 6 Republic. Chicago is an architecture lover’s dream with Art Deco, the promise of a bright new world at the World Fair in 1933, and understated glamour along the Magnificent Mile. Pira’s club chair and sofa are pure Chicago with its strong rounded shoulders and cozy softness. Pira got it. I wear a wool cowl-neck dress from StellaJane that she has made as an exclusive for the Thrift Shop. With a texture-change HUD with 10 choices, it’s a bargain at 50% off and a positively Chicago dress in wool but still fashionable and sleek. (Just put a cardigan sweater on if you get cold.) Frilled boots are an indulgence from Hilly Haalan at Cosmopolitan Room and a beautiful necklace from AvaGardner Kungler for On9 completes the look.

Hairology opens tomorrow so I am in hair heaven right now. What a great simple shopping area Tabata Jewell created for easy viewing and the hair coming up is amazing. This side styled ‘do from Neveah Niu includes fantastic textures and a great fit. Umazuma Metaluna has created a beautiful applier for the Catwa head for this month’s Collabor88. With and without freckles and option dimples, the skin is her usual combination of realism and perfection.

And now I need to go outside and get a breath of air for a slap of reality because I just got teary-eyed about Chicago in the winter. Andrew Bird does this to me every damn time. A cold fall breeze off the Lake portending winter oughta cure me of that.

A punk look is what I needed to have today because of this new jacket from Paul Lapointe and Bastchild Lotus, which includes a set of great designs for the back and of course, the add-on tank. The jacket has been made to fit the Maitreya mesh body as well as including all the standard sizes, and it’s rigged just perfectly to the body. I am wearing teeny tiny little shorts from Kinu Mayako that she is selling at the Thrift Shop for 50% off (as everything there is) and applied leggings from Tatyana Ultsch. Light blue boots from Moonbubble Gothly complete the look.

My skin is Umazuma Metaluna’s newest for Collabor88. All her skins for this round have parted lips, and I struggled with that. It’s very hard making the mouth look natural, in my opinion, and not making the avatar look like a mouth breather. I think, I hope, I managed to make the right tweaks to my face to make this skin attractive. My hair is Bubbles Clawtooth’s newest for Collabor88. I opted for the bright blue color to pop the look, and I fit Mayhem Seetan’s funky, jewel-encrusted headphones from On9 over the hair to just amp up this punk look with Maxi Gossamer’s almost vinyl platter necklace from Collabor88 as accessory. If you’re trying to get into Collabor88, give it a few days.

One more wonderful thing has come up: Thora Charron has made mesh lashes that fit both the LeLutka mesh heads and the system body. I have not tried them on the heads–in order to make lashes work on the heads with the competing makeups, some special things have to happen which I won’t explain here. However they look fabulous with a system head and fit me perfectly with very little editing. Your mileage may vary.

The vintage is out again at Shiny Shabby, which is chock full of some beautiful finds. This cute cotton dress from Kitja Rexie comes with the vest as an option in several colors, pretty and soft. I paired it up with slingbacks Aleida Rhode is selling in a dozen colors at My Attic. They were made for Slink feet but I was able to move them into place as they are modifiable. A pretty necklace from Lucinnnda from the Thrift Shop is a funky piece of bling for this look, and Paolla Flux’s amazing handbag for Shiny Shabby completes the look. Paolla includes a texture change HUD to swap out subtle variations of the stitching on the handbag. Mina Nakamura is selling this gorgeous casual ‘do at Shiny Shabby, which includes her great texture change HUD.

The big news today is Maximillion Grant is coming out with a new mesh head. If you remember, he came out with the first mesh head that was customizable. For a low price, he gave you a selection of makeups, eyes, brows, lips, etc. Most excitingly, he gave you a variety of expressions. And this is the best part of the mesh face—the variety of expressions. I was able to mix and match expressions from his HUD so I could do all these looks. Since the elements of the head are separate, I was able to swap out mesh eyes from Constance Daehlie to fix up my look.

I love this new song from Courtney Barnett, all punk and funny with a sweet touch of girly. I thought it suited this look, a lot of which I got at Thrift Shop 8.0. First, Cruella Pennell has made this fabulous dress from two different mesh templates, but she has made so much of these templates, one can hardly even think of what may have been made before. She has finitely and exquisitely textured these pieces with a pattern and leather insets. Putting the two together seems an effortless decision and pulling them together with such great texture work is ingenious. Best part? They are discounted at Thrift Shop 8.0! With these fabulous little booties from Senzati0n Domenitzo also from Thrift Shop, it’s a look that falls together.

I wanted to up the gothiness of the look without going overboard so Inka Mexicola’s beautiful skin for OMGacha combined with deep dark lips from Constance Daehlie that she is featuring at AnyBody plus Constance’s dark eyes makes a beautiful face, pale and glowing with the contrasting darkness without being chalky or dead. Kavar Cleanslate’s beautiful new ‘do for Collabor88 with a side-pulled ponytail and his fabulous new textures completes this beautiful gothy look.

I paired it with some baggy shorts I got a bit back from Kristabel Ashmoot that include a super-skinny red belt, which provided the pop of color that inspired red tights from Maya Levane. A casual necklace with texture changes for the beads and cord from Maxi Gossamer and awesome boots from Kinu Mayako that include a great HUD and are discounted at Thrift Shop, and I am set with one of those hodgepodge looks that seems to come together somehow.

I think this cute hair with a braid running over the front from Truth Hawks kind of pulls it all together. It’s bohemian and girly and messy and dyed at the ends. And an intensely lined eye from Sawsan Secretspy, her new skin for Suicide Dollz, makes our bohemian girl ready to face the day.
