“I’ve got a beautiful red dress
And you’d look really good
standing beside it..
I’ve got some beautiful new red shoes
and they look so fine
I’ve got a hundred and five fever
and it’s high tide….
Well push my button baby here I come”
~ Laurie Anderson, “Beautiful Red Dress”
Second Life bon vivant and fashionista, Harper Beresford is a virtual photographer, art collector, jewelry-maker, builder, poet, reader, writer, cultural anthropologist, model, flirt, and friend. I also created and managed the blog for SL11B, the SL Community Celebration and SL12B.
Harper has been featured on the Splash Page for secondlife.com in various forms as well as their Facebook page and on Marketplace. This blog was voted one of the top five for the Avi Choice Awards, and I have been a Fashion Expert for Linden Lab in their SL Forums. I have shown SL photography in RL in Berlin, Florence, and San Francisco as well as published in Architectural Digest in Italy. I have also published academic writing about SL, and wrote about Arts and Architecture for SLNN.com. I was Co-Lead for SL7B and for Fashion for Life in 2011 and 2012.
I would be thrilled to look at your items if you send them to me. I will warn that I do not always blog items sent to me–they need to fit into my blog but I feel strongly about supporting the designers to whom I commit my time. I will not blog you to the exclusion of others, however; don’t ask me to make your content my primary. I always include business and creator’s name and SLURL. Unfortunately, I do not have room to display your logo, but I will always acknowledge your work. I will send you notice that it has been blogged. I will not fill out your Google form to report my blog or report to your blogger handler. I send a notecard to the creator so they are aware of what is being shown and said about their work. If your handler wants to check up on me, I include a handy search box and include your brand name in my tags. Thank you for thinking of me!
Photos taken for the blog are, for the most part, untouched in Photoshop because I think the fashions should be shown as they are in Second Life. Most of them are so beautiful, it would be wrong to alter them. So I may correct an oddness on the avatar (hair bleeding through, for example) but for the most part, I won’t do a lot. I use windlight, shadows and depth of field in the SL client to achieve what is seen. I don’t use filters or other techniques.
* A star behind any item indicates it was received as a gift from a designer. It may have come as a review copy or just a gift. This is just to be up front about what I have received as gifts and what I haven’t. I reserve the right to review an item on the blog if I receive it. Not all I receive is blogged nor is all I blog received.
