What to Wear to Burning Life, Part 4

You see a running theme here? Gonna keep banging on it til Burning Life is over and y’all have visited! I really enjoy Burning Life because it gives me a chance to mix up my wardrobe and dress up and do some wild things. This is the sweet, unpainted, unparticled side of me.

Here you see me at Damanios Thetan’s Burning Life Temple build, an incredibly gorgeous place that I hope finds a home when BL is over.

I started with a skirt from LeeZu Baxter and a top from Julia Soothsayer. I will admit I got this particular combo from my friend Cali Rahal, who has scoured the grid for coordinating and hot-looking outfits.

I added a cute sash from Khea Karas to complete the sort of updated earth mother look I was after. I don’t show enough dust on the hem of the skirt—pretend it’s there.

With the ensemble, I added the details—a cute ponytaiul from Elikapeka Tiramisu (hair up and out of the face in the wind), big ethnic earrings from Zaara Kohime, and a fine tattoo from Jesseaitui Petion. And may I say, thank you, Jesse, for making a simple realistic tattoo—not all of us want to have them painted all over our bodies. Sometimes a pure heart with wings is all a girl needs. (And yeah, I have boots on under here. Really!)

What to Wear to Burning Life, Part 3

Burning Life has started this year to much acclaim and cheering. I have to hand it to the organizers I know—Talia Tokugawa, Doctor Gascoigne, White Lebed, Dusty Linden, Calamity Hathaway, and all those Rangers. They have been working HARD to bring Burning Life to you—most of it volunteer time. If you knew the background of some of these folks, you would know the best have been working for you.

That being said, I try to attend BL in the spirit of Burning Man, so I *try* to keep my stilettos at home (cuz walking the playa in stilettos seems sort of silly, no?). So you see I am wearing shorts from AvaGardner Kungler, a vest from Emery (part of a larger outfit I bought), the all important socks with boots, these from Kaejo DeSilva and my very favorite boots from Fallingwater Cellardoor. And Fallingwater also made the pretty bangles.

The best part of the outfit, of course, is the BL Lizard, made by MenuBar Memorial for last year’s Burning Life. Thanks again, MenuBar. This little gem does everything but the kitchen sink, including smoking a pipe and drinking from a plastic cup.

What to Wear to Burning Life, Part 2

As part of an ongoing series here (well ok, this is the second post.. we’ll see if it’s a “series”), I am bringing post number two to you about what to wear to Burning Life.

To review: wear socks and comfortable shoes because the playa dust can get to you and you’re walking around a lot. What was not mentioned is that it can get cold on the playa at night, so layering is always suggested.

This is a pretty conservative look for the playa. With this great leather blouson red jacket from AIR Winx and the simple V-neck tee from cocoro Lemon, this look really could work anywhere. I am wearing my FAVORITE jeans from Kazu Pinklady. If someone could wear out pixels, I would have done it with these jeans, I have worn them so many times. (You may see transparencies in the jeans soon…..)

I put on Bratty Slade’s necklace and bracelet to dress it up. Just cuz you’re casual doesn’t mean you have to be plain.

Finally, and that is what this whole blog is about—the shoes. I got these beauties from a new designer, Magnifico Muggins. A lovely Austrian woman, Magnifico is entering SL in a big way with a full line of boots and shoes. This is just the tip of the iceberg. This sweet little sneaker includes a hud with color changing so you can switch the look of the entire outside. This black and red combo suited me really well. But there are some other great color combos. Available for women and men! (You are gonna see more from this lady in this blog soon.. I am digging her work.)

What to Wear to Burning Life, Part 1

This year again, I have volunteered to help move along the fashion portion of Burning Life, which is a very small part of BL overall, and seems kind of superfluous because no one is looking at avatars—they are looking at the amazing builds and listening to the music. However, there is a place for fashion—what people wear to Burning Man is very important. That being said, this is the first in a series (I hope) of blogs about what to wear to Burning Life this year.

Today’s ensemble is based on anecdotes from RL Burners who have attended Burning Man. The playa is hot and the playa is dusty and you spend a lot of time walking around under the sun. Recommended are hats to protect from the sun, goggles in case of sudden dust storms, and socks and shoes to protect the feet from the alkaline dust of the playa. The rest is left to one’s discretion. One blog says, “Many Burners, both men and women, take the city’s self-proclaimed agenda of ‘radical self-expression’ to mean ‘wear as little as possible.’”

I have chosen the brilliant Shai Delacroix’ Zambia Safari Swimsuit for the playa. With it’s utilitarian camo bottoms and delectable top, it would suit the playa just fine—light enough on top to keep me cool, tough enough on the bottom to withstand dancing, camping, and general radical self-expression.

Braids are always useful—not so much flyaway hair in the winds on the playa. And the bandanna on top of Truth Hawk’s style can serve as protection or face covering when need be. It also keeps the sweat out of my eyes. I have adorned myself with kikunosuke Eel’s (of Japan Tempura fame) beautiful new jewelry to complete the bohemian look I have going here.

The boots are the most important. Fallingwater Cellardoor’s Old Boots are my favorite pair. Broken in, reliable, tough, they protect me from the playa dust better than any, and I don’t have to worry about wrecking them. They get better looking with age.
