A hot red dress and ankle boots and I am set to go out. Doc Eldritch’s new sexy look, made from 100% original mesh and fit tight to mesh bodies, is a hot look for dancing or other playmaking. Check out the wrinkles, the body shown through the fabric, the great texture. With a texture-change HUD, this dress has it all. I paired up Miffyhoi Rosca’s belted gloves for Shiny Shabby, another piece that includes a versatile texture-change HUD. Pixieplumb Flanagan is offering these snakeskin ankle boots as the donation item for the S.O.S. Festival, a fund-raiser to benefit Medicins Sans Frontieres/Doctors without Borders. GenesisLab has created a gorgeous new mesh head for the Shiny Shabby event and I am rather taken with this particular one with its beautiful open eyes and luscious lips. A square jawline adds a certain powerful beauty to the face shape and the appliers have a strong brow. GenesisLab is also offering add on makeups—both lipsticks and shadows, which I employed to amp up my look. Kavar Cleanslate has this dramatic glorious “hot” hair as one of his prizes in his Arcade gacha this round. You want drama? Kavar has you covered.

March came in like a lamb and went out like a lion for us with tons of wind! I am guessing that’s why Miffyhoi Rosca made this darling dress for The Project Se7en with the wind motion already incorporated. I struggled with it at first for photos but found a perfect choice in Isabeau Baragula’s lovely chair, also for The Project Se7en, which swayed gently in the breeze, hanging from Mitsuko Kytori’s bowed tree. The tree, which comes with tons of choices, including blossoms, wind levels, etc., can be multiplied to create a lovely bower, though one was enough for me. My little doll from Miffyhoi and I curled up for a daytime nap. The dress includes a HUD that turns the flower print on and off and the doll has a color change HUD included. Isabeau has built in a ton of poses for singles and couples and includes a bunch of texture choices for the pillows and seat. Pretty little flats from Lilo Denimore for Shiny Shabby complete my outfit.

Umazuma Metaluna still does system skins for those of you who have not been able or willing to commit to a mesh head, and as always, they are gorgeous. This one was made for a recent event (which I missed by a couple days) but is sure to be offered in her store soon. My wind blown hair is one of Bubbles Clawtooth’s lovely pieces, which I got on sale recently. A perfect style to go with my dress!

Soup Season

It’s the last of photos taken in Barnesworth Anubis’ house. The event has already switched over but this was such a fabulous place to showcase the great pieces I have recently acquired. Finally we’re in the dining room, where the centerpiece is Kalie Firelyte’s sexy dining set for ROMP. Now, typically this may not seem so sexy but it includes several animations in chairs and table that makes it sexy. A very innocuous piece can suddenly become amorous with the right person (especially if you thought you wanted to do it in every room of the house). I decorated with various pieces from gachas at Shiny Shabby, including some darling pieces like the photo hanger from AnaisTerpallie and DanielEstro, the garlands and side table. Jake Vordun does some great work and he’s featuring a picture perfect chandelier at Shiny Shabby and I found pieces from Jammeh’s gacha to make perfect side pieces. Thanks again to tastemaker Sabein Streeter, who organized my stuff and placed a lot of it. All I had to do was go in and put the final touches.

The story is about soup because it’s on my mind a lot. I have made Mark Bittmann’s chunky vegetable soup three times now in the past couple weeks (as delivery of my CSA boxes winds up for the season), and today we had a carrot squash soup with ginger that my mom made. A ratatouille will no doubt make it to the table because there is an eggplant and a box of thyme on the counter. (When did this turn into a cooking blog?)

I put together this casual look with Miffyhoi Rosca’s cuddly soft knit mesh dress as the centerpiece and Darling Monday’s boots as the accompaniment. Available in several autumn-pretty colors, the dress includes a HUD for changing the belt color, so I was able to match it to my boots. Queue Marlowe’s beautifully wavy, side-caught ponytail is a lovely top for this casual look. Umazuma Metaluna made actual system skins for Chapter Four, a lovely set with her characteristic moles and finely-groomed brows. I added Constance Daehlie’s pale lipstick to the look to accentuate my soup warmed blush.

I love this Neil Young song and I love my cinnamon girl. Start with this slinky sexy dress from Beanster Potato (which can be switched to a number of colors using her color change HUD, so don’t think you’re limited to this flavor). Add pumps, also from Beanster, and some gorgeous jewelry from AvaGardner Kungler, and of course a darling handbag from Miffyhoi Rosca for this round of Shiny Shabby, and you have a hot mama, nearly burning through the rugs from Kunst Himmel’s gacha for Shiny Shabby. (More rugs! Yay!)

The heat of this look comes from Shantia Soulstar’s gorgeous and soulful skin for Skin Fair. It comes with Slink and Omega appliers plus a few others. I spent a frustrating half hour trying to get it to work with the Love n Lust translators on one body (it was not coloring the neck fix.. bleah) so I switched to the Belleza mesh body and Slink hands and feet, and that worked quite well except the nipples, which don’t quite line up but who cares since I am dressed. The Omega is still hit and miss but well, still a deal at the price. I used the makeups available with the skin to create this smoking look and pretty nail appliers from Giela Delpaso.

Shylah Honey is on a roll with hair lately, and she is offering this sexy and beautiful style at the Fantasy Collective this round. With a lock of hair winding back up, it’s a different and new look in a standard silhouette.  My pretty ring is from Anthony77777 Bandit, who has captured the glistening qualities of windlight to make rings that glitter without scripts or bling.

Shiny Shabby opens today and with it, a whole lot of great shiny and hardly shabby items, all made for this event that relies on the theme of vintage and gently used items. Miffyhoi Rosca is a natural creator for these event, and she has made a darling long mesh dress with a calico print, belted at the waist with wonderful puffed sleeves. Paired with a matching headpiece and Shaleene Kenin’s darling sandals (which I realize you can barely see but they are darling, trust me), the look is vintage.

The fair is chock full of the kind of shabby chic furniture people love in SL. This piano from Agustov includes a passel of great poses, including this piano playing animation (that went rhythmically with the Radiohead I was listening to when I shot the photos, though the vision and sounds didn’t quite match). Tab Tatham made my lovely white pieces, part of a set of intriguing decor items which include this wiry plant. They are mod, so they can be tinted. My mesh chair, from AptB, includes tons of texture change options for different parts of the chair, so you purchase one chair and can redecorate over and over with a few clicks. Instead of having to choose an entire look, you can mix and match metals, woods, even the two different chair cushions, and everything has that wonderful burnished look.

 

Umazuma Metaluna is releasing a new skin for Shiny Shabby, this delicate, winsome skin with a subtle blush and her wonderful Intensity Lip system, which allows for custom tinting. Truth Hawks must have known that vintage pretty would come calling because his latest release was a perfect match for this look with its gentle waves and beautiful roll to the back. Katya Valeska made two sets of poses for the fair, including a couple you see in these photos.

I snuck over to Prides Crossing again to take photos because it’s so peaceful there with the falling snow and the beautiful landscaping. I have assembled a comfy look with a great mesh sweater/skirt set from Miffyhoi Rosca, who has made it all one piece in lovely soft pastels. I paired it with great boots that come with a terrific texture change HUD that allows all sorts of variations from Alliana Petunia, which she is selling exclusively at FROST this month.

Bubbles Clawtooth made this fabulous hair with a knit cowl wrapped around it for Collabor88. She includes a texture change HUD not only for the hair colors but also for the cowl, but I opted for the default white because it suited the outfit. I had purcahsed this great skin from Aikea Reiko during Skin Addiction’s Black Friday and I am first getting a chance to show it. With its warm tones, beautiful brows and fantastic eye makeup, it’s a gorgeous skin for fantasy or for a peaceful walk in the woods.

The Aptitude to Fly

The EB Awareness Event started yesterday and was quite a success with a full sim and lots of people shopping. Epidermolysis Bullosa is a rare disease that affects 1 in 50,000 children born throughout the world as a result of a genetic disorder. It varies in severity among its sufferers. It is characterized by a defect between the anchoring of the skin between the epidermis (top layer of skin) and the dermis (second layer). People who suffer from EB suffer from skin fragility, blistering and constant pain. “Butterfly Children” is what kids with the disorder are called due to the fragility of their skin so a lot of the décor sold at the fair has butterflies on it.

Kaerri Rae has made an entire set of furniture with monarch butterflies as the motif especially for this event with a large chunk of her income going to DEBRA of America. She offers two sets: one in white with dark gray accents and one in dark gray with white accents. Depending on your décor, you can choose a set and use the pieces with your own existing furniture. I set up two little nooks to show the set, and I included a few other pieces that will be sold at the EB Awareness event, including a darling lamp from Plato Novo.

 

 

My sweater is also being sold at the event, a generous offer from Parallax Resident. The sweater comes with a texture-change HUD for some great sweater options. I have seen this in the men’s version too and it’s terrific. Portions of the sale of this sweater go to DEBRA of America. My jeans are a pair of great bell bottoms that Datrip Blackbart has at the Vintage  & Cool fair in several colors. My shoes, which I adjusted to my Slink feet, are from Renee Harvy and can be worn without the feet. My handbag is one of the gacha items at Miffhoi Rosca’s kiosk at Season’s Story.

Mochi Milena did an amazing job on the extensive skins she created for this month’s androgynous theme at Genre. I already knew that she put considerable effort into creating options for fembois and women who want cleavage and makeups. I really appreciate that Mochi offers these options to people who want to explore their identity. My hair is Mina Nakamura’s latest for the Dressing Room Fusion and so perfect for the season with a texture change hat as well as the mesh hair. Love this look!

Influence and Appropriation

A young woman came into a fashion group chat and asked for “authentic African” wear available in SL. It really made me shudder. That’s like asking for authentic American wear. It’s an entire continent. Additionally, what this person might consider being “authentic” might simply be an “authentic” representation of the same old (racist/imperialist/ignorant) memes. Let’s face it—nothing in SL is “authentic”—it’s a representation of something else. We are influenced by and appropriate images and ideas from the rest of our literate, privileged culture(s) and bring them into SL and make sense of them in THIS platform. That’s what makes SL so interesting.

That whole thought process (and by the way, she didn’t quite get why people were not helping her—because most were thinking the same as me.. “authentically African? WTF does THAT mean?”) made me wonder about the outfit I have on.. clearly “Indian” influenced—or is it? The texture on the top from Miffyhoi Rosca has a pattern that looks Indian and she calls the outfit “India.” But would an Indian woman wear this? (Well chances are one would because many Indian woman dress pretty fashionably.) Even zooming in on Zaara Kohime’s necklace made me think. Her textures seem more like Chinese cloisonné rather than anything specifically Indian. I know Zaara lives in India; I know cloisonné is pretty much an east Asian thing. What IS authentically “Indian” and then what is authentic virtual Indian?

I won’t run Hart Larsson’s skin through this analysis. He got a little cultural critique for one of his skins already from me (and I will say he came back and discussed it with me in a very friendly fashion, which I appreciated tons). This skin is simply beautiful and a testimony to Hart’s artistry. He makes all his skins from scratch, hand-drawn, by the way. I have seen some of his other art and he really truly is an artist (in his spare time, when he’s not being a code poet). And Truth Hawks is known for his “real” hair. Not sure what he does to make it so—is it the randomly placed flexis like hair escaping from a braid, the great textures with variable tints running through the strands, or is it something else..?
